Aliens sequel now officially terminated

Just realised, the BO failure of DF has surely put the final nail in the coffin of the Blomkamp Aliens sequel with Weaver/Biehn (if it wasn't dead enough already) as it was basically Aliens: Dark Fate - almost the exact same scenario ( i.e. the 'real' 3rd movie ignoring the lame sequels, bringing back previously deceased characters, older badass iconic female lead returns, fanboy director, maybe even Cameron returning to exec produce ) which would now seem like box office suicide (esp as the Alien and Terminator franchises are so heavily connected)

after the surprise hit of Halloween 2018 there was a lot of social media stuff about Weavers doing the same with the Blomkamp Aliens sequel.. and there was the general notion that if DF was also big hit (like 500m worldwide) there was a good chance that the *real* Alien 3 would be be fast tracked (as well as DF 2/3, King Conan, Triplets etc)

funny to think the 6th Terminator has pretty much done almost the same 250m box office as 6th Alien coming 4-5years after the 5th instalment did similar (TG 440m/Prometheus 400m)

The real Alien 3 would have probably just been another disappointing sequel that doesn't live up to the first two.

100 percent. They would have woke the shit out of it. No good cinema will be produced in the next 20 years.

Ummm, "the real Alien 3" already IS that. Though I admire David Fincher's intentions on that film.

Blomkamp's pitch, BTW, was for Alien 5, which would have been a sequel to Resurrection. It was rejected in favor of the prequel film Prometheus.

Blomkamps movie was a direct sequel to Aliens ignoring A3/4 like DF ignored T345.
also it was rejected in favour of Covenant

That movie was always a pipe dream. It had a very slim window of realization and Scott shuttered it. The minute that Disney deal happened, it was game over, man. Game over.

Around 2015 it sounded quite likely it would happen after Blomkamp posted the concept art (maybe in light of Star Wars coming back with the original cast). the studio seemed to green light it and Weaver, Biehn and Blomkamp were saying it was imminent.. also at one point Scott sounded positive saying hed produce it after Covenant (Covenant 2017/Aliens sequel 2018).. think even Cameron said he'd read the script and was enthusiastic about it . then there were rumours Scott wasn't keen on it going ahead near his movie and halted it going ahead.. then Covenant underperformed DF style and Aliens '2' went silent.. blomkamp eventually tweeting it had been cancelled .. then the success of Halloween 2018 fleetingly brought back some interest as did Dark Fate going ahead with Linda Hamilton (there were even rumours Cameron would now be involved, probably in a similar way to DF).. but now after DF .. it'll be deader than ever

There was a quote from Scott where he laid out quite bluntly something to this effect, "when I saw there was such a demand still for the Alien property, I knew I had to jump on it, and no way was I gonna let somebody else cash in on my baby." He straight up shut that shit down. This was around the same time Blomkamp acknowledged his movie was dead and likely never to happen.

Yes the fact the Prometheus sequel got reworked into a full on Alien movie after Blomkamp posted his Aliens sequel art and his movie looked like it was going ahead is abit suspicious (especially after Scott had said the alien was old hat in interviews)

think the original intention for Prometheus 2 was more engineers/shaw based with Alien/xenos for the 3rd film .. but Scott said the mixed/negative feedback on Prometheus regarding among other things no aliens ..(plus maybe the enthusiastic response to Blomkamps potential Aliens movie) fast tracked the Alien into the Prometheus sequel

The online hype for Alien 3 was huge. Next thing we know we have the Prometheus debacle. Fun. This eventually got a Gibson Alien 3 comic published. Which sucked. All I know is: If you're a creator. DON'T EVER waste your time developing something you don't own. Make a knock off and do your own thing.

Was SO hyped for the Gibson Alien 3 comic! Haven't bought a comic in decades but ordered all 5 issues. What a f'kin let down. Each issue worse than the last
