This could go either way...

Mike Flanagan is a great writer / director, who has only made one dud film so far. He also seems to get what makes Stephen King's work tick, because he turned "Gerald's Game" into a really good movie (if anything, it's too faithful to King).

However, "Doctor Sleep" isn't a very good book. And, to be honest, Kubrick's "The Shining" was superior to King's novel.

So Flanagan is now is the tricky position of having to adapt a not-so-great book as well pay homage to Stephen King AND Stanley Kubrick, who both disliked the other's take on "The Shining".

hope hes leaned more to making a direct sequel to the Kubrick movie.. otherwise ALOT of people will be disappointed if hes made more a sequel to the novel...like 'Phantom Menace' levels of disappointment for horror fans (oops Ewans in this too...)

Kubrick couldn't dislike King's "take" on "The shining", since it is King's original work. And the movie had very little to do with the book. I do, however, agree that "Doctor Sleep" isn't King's finest work.

He didn’t like his book, so he changed the story extensively. Is it that hard to understand?

i hope he makes something unique but it will be no easy task

I'm sure they're aware of what they're dealing with.

I hear you on the novel. I just started the audio book...about 4 hours in...kinda dragging on...and the overall premise sounds like a supernatural Terminator 2 sounds dumb
