Racists will hate it.
System is designed in a way that there's only white superheros in comics and books so only white people are starred. Good that hollywood is breaking the system and giving poc a chance to earn few bucks too

shareMost comic book readers are white and most comic book artists are white, so nothing weird or wrong with the majority of comic book heroes being white. Nothing weird either with having a comic book hero with a different skin colour, but there's no good reason to turn a white one black.
shareThat’s true, but they didn’t in this movie. All the spider people are from the comics, including Miles. So there was no race-swapping
shareWhile there wasn't literal race swapping, I do feel the Miles character was a race trade-in. There's only one Spiderman and that's the white guy Peter Parker.
shareI don’t really see it as a trade in, since original Spider-Man was in it, and as a pretty important character, Peter B Parker. He’s your regular earth 616 white guy peter Parker. And there’s quite a few versions of Spider-Man in the comics. Just, Peter B Parker is the most known
shareI was talking about the conception of the Miles character, who started out in the comic as the actual replacement of the dead (Ultimate) Peter Parker. So unnecessary. And now he even shares Peter Parker's duties in the main universe. They're really pushing him. I actually hate all these different versions of superheroes. Peter Parker should at least have been the main character in this movie.
shareI’m confused on which part of that comment is talking about the comics and which part is referring to the movie.
I disagree since peter Parker is always the main character in all of them. We already have a current movie series ongoing with Peter Parker as Spider-Man. They did something different. He was in it, and important to it, but he wasn’t front and center like he always is. People can have their Peter Parker by watching live action MCU Spider-Man. An animated peter Parker movie series coming out alongside a live action one just makes no sense.
I meant that in the original comic Miles was a trade-in because he started out as a replacement of a dead Peter Parker. It was a world in which the original Spiderman was supposed to be gone for good. Miles was the main character in that series, not Peter Parker.
Having a live action movie reboot every few years doesn't make much sense to me either.
Well I know that marvel comics has quite a diverse range of backgrounds for their characters. They have plenty of heroes that aren’t white. All of the spider people in the movie are directly from the comics. So this isn’t thanks to Hollywood, the comics already had the diversity
shareYea but why don't we see Korean version of Hulk Amadeus Cho, black ironman Riri or no gay character? Why do they always selectively make movies about white superheros? Do I sense a hint of institutional racism?
shareBecause no movie plot has directly called for it. This movie is about alternate dimension spider people. They didn’t just throw a black version Spider-Man in there for no reason. The movie is about alternate Spider-People, so they used alternate Spider-People from the comics.
Also, Deadpool is pretty pan...
All the comic universes are alternate universe. We've been just focusing on ones where whites are the superheros
shareIs it about racism...or the usurpation of an existing established character to satiate the SJW crowd?
While I personally love the Miles Morales character (and his Marvel reality story line), I can also see why there are some who feel taking characters and simply sticking in a minority to play the role as being nothing but a convenient way to avoid creating new and interesting heroes. It is a bit of a cop-out simply done to fit the 21st Century societal mandates.
Spider-Man is an icon. In that respect, I think it's okay to take the character and stretch it. Again, MM is done very well (not just the movie, but the comics too) so for those hating on him I strongly suggest you give him a try. He perpetuates the same values as PP and is just as entertaining.
Your title is called a strawman. Learn what logical fallacies are and then work to avoid using them.
You're welcome!
Is this a way of saying if you didn't like it than you're 100% racist?
sharebecause they are a minority and therefore thats understandable why the majority are white
