Cop Interaction Certainly Not USA

Cops approach and deal with folks without drawing their sidearm. They don't wear Kevlar. One of the first things that caught my attention was how the cop, in the middle of the night in a cemetery, doesn't have his pistol drawn and doesn't seem the least bit intimidated by muddy naked people approaching suddenly out of the bushes.

If the show was made in the USA, the cops would have 3 or 4 backups, dogs and riot gear. They would shoot the naked folks because they were approaching. They would at least have their weapons out. Someone would have been tased for sure.

You see it in so many scenes where the lead actor never draws and until he shoots Vic, he's never drawn his firearm the entire series. That was only the 2nd shot in the entire series, the 1st being Vic shooting the trailer, missing a guy 6 feet ahead of him by at least 6 feet to the left.

TV cops do that, but real cops have very strict rules about guns. In NY City a cop would get in trouble for breaking the rules if he walked up to a car on a traffic stop and touched or put his hand on his gun while the gun was still in the holster. Don't believe what you see on TV cop shows.

The most important thing is sincerity. If you can fake that you've got it made.

maybe not all draw their weapons...but cops in the US would be WAAAAAY more aggressive and high strung.

I noticed the passiveness of the police on this *TVSHOW* I did keep comparing it to how it would of went down int he US. Especially the scene where vic finds carlo climbing over the fence...I could only imagine.

I read this in a chola accent.

You're right. A bit odd. However, being naked, he could clearly see they wouldn't have concealed weapons. But still. Even the bravest cop would shyte his pants.

What do you got on? Loafers? You don't slaughter animals in loafers!

Plenty of fine American policeman. They simply don't make the news. Except maybe the Good News Network.

reply

Lol cops don't draw their weapons without reason. Your opinion is based on movies/ tv. And any sensible cop will have on armor.

reply

Yeah, well who knows, but that sure makes him likable and admirable.
There he is calling everyone sir and maam ... it was kind of cute.
Yes, probably in the US those dead people would ended back under the
ground in 10 minutes.

I'm an Australian who grew up in country towns, and I can tell you that the cops portrayed in this show are very realistic. There would be cops in country towns here who have worked 50+ years and never once drawn their gun. Even now living in a main city, I can't remember the last time I saw a cop wearing kevlar or anything other than a normal uniform, and I've seen only once in my lifetime (almost 40 years) a cop with his gun drawn.

Also, as for the poster who said they would have three or four backups if it were in a city - there would be back ups available if it were in a city. As you saw in the show, there were two cops on duty (and a third came in from a nearby town) and these are likely to be 30-50% of the police force in the town. Who would the back up be? You wouldn't wake up your cop mate in the middle of the night for something like a disturbance at the cemetery, when he would have to be on duty the next day.

The country out here is really beautiful (not at all like Wolf Creek!) and it is extremely safe to live in!!

The major difference is, Australia isn't gun happy like the US. Police in the US never know whether the person they're approaching is carrying a firearm or not. In Australia it's EXTREMELY unlikely.

Not to make excuses for excessive force in the US. Just pointing out that there are huge cultural differences between the US and Australia.
