Why is Uhtred so unrealistically STUPID and CHILDISH??

He's lucky he can fight because he has to be the DUMBEST character on the show! Every single move he makes is so obviously stupid/wrong/naive.. That scene in episode 5 where he bursts into the church to cry about how he killed ubba and no one knows/cares. Just ridiculous! He sounds like a whiney spoiled little brat! Does this moron ever think before he acts?

I can understand the first episode when he runs into battle as a child in oversized armour actually believing he could..... Idk, but he's a kid, so there's an excuse to be that stupid and naive, but he doesn't seem to grow up or learn any wisdom after that. All 8 episodes he's basically the same dumb child.

And don't get me started on all the whining about "I deserve land, gold, this and that , it's what is owed to me, it's mine, blah blah cry cry" when he's got nothing to his name, next to zero accomplishments besides being the dumbest person in the country... Just WOW he's beyond irritating!

I've never seen such a dumb protagonist.

OP: how is his being stupid and childish unrealistic? Have you not heard of Donald Trump?

Hey folks,

I just finished watching the eight episodes of the first season, and I guess I will go against the grain on this thread. I enjoyed the series quite a bit, and I liked the character of Uhtred as well as the actor who played the part. As to Uhtred being stupid and childish, I simply do not understand how one arrives at those conclusions. He is the one character who constantly arrives at a strategy to solve the constant battles which take place, and he is the true hero who does kill the most ominous bad guy Dane. After doing so, he is betrayed by the very folks he saved. Was his behavior childish? I do not think so. I think he was quite smart and brave to stand up to those who were nothing more than sheep.

Best wishes,

Being brave is not the same thing as being smart and I would not even call him brave, arrogant would be more apt.
I like this program but uhtred and his girlfriend are the most unlikeable characters in it.

LOL. At least Uhtred has the excuse of being a callow young man. Trump is seventy.

Man get over the election already. Trump has nothing to do with this. You are far too biased to make a fair judgement anyway. You want to see a true disaster, our current President is one. Sanctions against Russians with a month left and no evidence that they had anything to do with the emails. They were just leaked anyway, not hacked. Pathetic.

reply

Probably because he is supposed to be.

In the first paragraph of "The Pale Horseman," Uhtred says,

"...when I was twenty I considered myself a full-grown man. I had fought in the shield wall, fathered a child, and was loathe to take advice from anyone. In short, I was arrogant, headstrong and stupid."
