Which "Big Name" Actor will join the Disney/Marvel Family??

With the increasing popularity of Marvel and with this so-called changing of the guard. I am curious WHO will be offered a part as either a big name for a lead or even as just an influential side-character.

RDJ was decidedly not a big name when he signed on in Iron Man and Ed Norton was probably a more marquee name when he joined the MCU as Banner but Marvel's M.O. wasn't really relying on Names to drive their popularity. Now with the MCU being prominent and now down-sizing from an epic how does Marvel/Disney stay relevant?

Angelina Jolie is a big name to add to the Eternals but will that really bring eyeballs to the screen? I'm not suggesting that is a movie that Marvel/Disney has to make because Big Names really drive up production costs and can be quite difficult to work with but even with the great planning Marvel/Disney and Kevin Feige have done how do you maintain the momentum with just a large list of IP? Most people don't have a clue to what the Eternals is, who they are and why should they even care?

Wouldn't you like to see larger than life Names inhabit the roles of the FF? In some ways the first Family of Marvel deserves the Big Name treatment in my book.

Looks like Keanu Reaves?

Who should he play?

Namor the Sub-Mariner.

reply

That would be awesome. Especially if they started him out as like a half-villain.

reply

There hasn’t been any official word on that, although if there’s any validity to these rumors, then... it’s about time he joined the MCU! (Only reason he didn’t play Yon-Rogg was because of his obligations to John Wick 3.)

Career wise, Keanu is arguably hotter than he’s ever been, and him joining the MCU would certainly be very interesting. But IF he ultimately doesn’t get cast in Eternals, then I would like to see him take on another role in this franchise (I know I’m far from the only person who’s looking forward to this).

reply

Probably Kevin Spacey.

reply

Since Spacey is your casting call what role are you thinking of that you want to see him play?

reply

He was great as Lex Luthor. One of the bright spots of Superman Returns.

reply

I disagree, I think he was barely okay as Lex Luthor.

Oh sure, he was head and shoulders above the rest of the cast, 100x better than any of them, but that still left him far short of greatness.

I'll focus on characters who are actually Avengers in the comic books, although, KF could add any Marvel character he likes to the MCU roster of the Avengers.

Not all of these actors are "big name" quite yet, but are at least are on the edge...

Joe Manganiello or John Krasinski as Hercules (Harry Cleese)
---Obviously, Joe appears to be set to play Deathstroke over in the DCEU, but with everything on hold regarding that at the moment, perhaps he could be convinced to play the role he's far more suited for. If Joe isn't interested or cannot do it because of contractual reasons, then John Krasinski would be a nice fall-back option. I know, I know, but he could hit the weight room really hard. *If Henry Cavill wasn't already well known as Superman, he would be a good choice too.

Nathan Fillion as Wonder Man (Simon Williams)
---He might be a little too long in the tooth at this point, but he was made for this role. For those who don't know, WM had a romantic fling with Ms. Marvel (aka Captain Marvel) back in the day, so it could be a nice fit in adding him to the Avengers roster at this point.

Alden Ehrenreich as Sub-Mariner (Namor McKenzie)
---Although I'd rather see Alden take a crack at the next iteration of Wolverine instead, I think he could pull off the role as Namor. Now that Disney owns his rights, it would be a good way to bring him into the next phase, if they decide to wait on introducing the Fantastic Four.

??? as Nova (Richard Rider)

An interesting out-of-the-box character might be...

Taron Egerton as Union Jack (Joseph Chapman)
---UJ is not an Avenger in the comics, but he did fight alongside Captain America in modern times; he could work as an interesting foil to Winter Soldier and the new Captain America (Sam Wilson) ...more international flair is always a good thing

She-Hulk (Jennifer Walters) is another character they should introduce soon.

Any ideas on who could play that role?

reply

Marvel knows by now that they don't need big names to sell billions of tickets, so they aren't going to be hiring big actors who cost money for the sake of ticket sales. They'll hire the best actor for the role, be the name big or small, because one of the secrets of their success is doing a superb job with the casting.

For the last few years top actors have been so eager to get on the Marvel bandwagon that they've got big names taking small roles, just to be part of the fun.

reply

Aye.

It was hilarious to see even Sly Stallone and Kurt Russell joining in on the fun.

Too bad they can’t let characters of Jack Burton, Snake Plissken and John Rambo join the fun.

Johnny Deppers
Channing Tatum
Mel Gibson

Not gonna happen since he’s part of the DC debacle but...

Henry Cavill with that beard and a narcissistic demeanor would make a great Hercules if they chose to drag Olympus into the universe.

I remember the laughable rivalry in the comics between him and Thor. As well as the Saturday morning cartoon when Thor had to save his ass.

Just sayin’...

Is Henry even playing Superman again? There seems to be conflicting reports. I could see him joining the MCU down the road.

But please no Olympus. Let DC stumble with that stuff. The MCU did a good job incorporating Marvel's makeshift of Norse mythology into a technological alien empire. We don't need another one with Olympus. And no real gods please. We already have Celestials, Eternals, Titans, etc which are strong enough. And please no magic either. We already have Dr. Strange doing a good job blurring the line between science and magic. We don't need to mess that all up by introducing gods.

reply

Too late in the day to introduce another major character, to be honest.

And Olympus would require at least 2 movies to introduce the character and relevant plot points.

Besides...the next storyline revolves around that bimbo Captain Marvel and that hooded idiot who was “coming back for her”.

Personally, I’m suffering from superhero fatigue.

At least Captain Marvel was a coherent film with sensible character motivations. If the MCU starts pumping out trash like Dark Phoenix then I'm done.

reply

Let’s hope smarter brains prevail who don’t do something f*cking stupid like REBOOT the whole franchise and cast the vomitable Zac Efron and Channing Tatum as Stark and Rogers.

Only “Game of Thrones” fans give a sh*t about Sophie Turner and J-Law’s ASS can’t save that dying franchise.

Only took one for Asgard.

Hercules if they chose to drag Olympus into the universe.

They wouldn’t need to drag Olympus into it; only reference it.

It could be similar to how they treat Drax in GotG. They don’t show any backstory or his life outside the group.

reply

That's pretty good!

reply

I'd like to see Betty White before she's gone. Bob Newhart, too, although they'd have to find the right parts.

I think Bill Murray would be great in a villainous role.

On the younger side of things, I'd like to see Daisy Ridley in something. Not so young, but John Hamm really should have a place in the MCU.

reply

Betty White is intriguing and not because of Deadpool.

Good call!
