Unnecessary sex scenes ruin family viewing

I can't watch such a movie with my children because I feel uncomfortable. The story was dfine, the camera was great, the director was killing it, my boys could really enjoy this flick.

Spoilers ahead, read at your peril.

This movie is about lesbian love and con artists. Sex scenes are totally unnecessary.

If I want to watch porn, there are zillions of sites for it or I could download an XXX-rated torrent within minutes. So why push this annoying soft-porn into our nostrils in an otherwise decent movie? I don't get it. It ruins family viewing.

reply

The movie is about the difference between sexual love and loveless sex, as well as the nature of erotica and its exploitation in pornography. These subjects can't be cinematically explored without some graphic content. If your boys aren't mature enough to understand that, then The Handmaiden is not for them.

reply

Why are you TOTALLY omitting the intelligent crime plots that were in the story? This movie was about them, too.

BTW, wtf is a "sexual love"??

reply

I can't tell if you're trolling or serious. Even without the sex scenes, this isn't, in any way, a movie for kids.

Why not?

reply

Yeah!
Same thing with The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.
All that violence made it very inappropriate for family viewing.
I really wish they had gone another way with it.

It should be a given that a movie based on an erotic lesbian novel would contain some erotic scenes. A big theme throughout the film itself is eroticism in its many (strange) forms. Why leave out the actual deed in a movie that is filled with sexuality?
Furthermore, a lot of Park Chan Wook movies contain at least one erotic scene that will make you feel a bit uncomfortable watching it with anyone else (incest, forced oral sex, to name a few). Even when the person you're watching it with is an adult.

Maybe you haven't noticed, but not all movies are meant to be for the tots.

But you ARE Blanche ... and I AM.

So torture and porn are OK family viewing but lesbian love making is not ! Have to be honest - that seem seriously warped to me.
