I'm OK being monitored if it prevents terrorist attacks

This film didn't go too much into that, apart from the bit where it said the US was using these technologies for 'social gain' which would be in the national interest anyway wouldn't it?

Don't we need these technologies to fight terrorism?

There was a scene where his girlfriend questioned him and he responded with, 'I saw you looking at other guys on the dating site we met'.

Well thats not really a matter of national security is it.

I dont really care at all about being monitored on the phone/internet, why should anyone else? Forget your morals and principals and stop being such a weirdo on the internet!

You're a fool. Protect your privacy and people should know their boundaries with you.

I think the biggest issue of many with this take is the blind faith you have in government: the primary institution in human history that has shown the least amount honesty and good faith. Power corrupts, absolute power corrupts absolutely. Default position for humans once power is included in the equation is abject evil.

I understand all this Liberty! privacy! civil rights! argument ,except ... well i dont understand

Why dont we give gov these kind of powers and IF ...
If the government starts abusing its monitoring and etc powers Thats when you kick them out , by force if necessary.

In the meantime they are used to control terrorists and criminals

reply

HOW do you kick them out.... when they run everything? Force? Against America's Army? My one pistol has very little effect on a truck load of soldiers with automatics

reply

Well the pistol vs Tanks argument is one that is present with or without the privacy / surveillance angle

reply

So, what can be done? "Voting" isn't real.
