For a kid that has never been outside or had contact with nobody except her "dad". And yes, he schooled her, but still?
Who tought her curse words? How she know about braids? She apparently knew what fake flowers where? And looking at the Barbie, she kinda knew it was wrong to look at the twat... And she knew that stuffed bunnies are awesome guardians.
Stuff like that. Anybody knows more stuff she should not have known about?
i'm sure in the previous 9 or 10 years (i forget how old she was) the word "braids" came up once or twice. maybe Jack mentioned that the girl's mom used to have braided hair.
They "play" teacher/student everyday during her school lessons, she just wanted to be the teacher for once. Or since she clearly watched cartoons maybe it came up during one episode.

It's amazing, these critics have no imagination. Why did you have to offer those possibilities to vectornerd? They're reaching so hard.

Where did she hear swear words? Well the obvious answer would be from her dad at some time during the previous 9 years. You never caught your parent slipping on a bad word?
She had long hair, she had cartoons, she had books...most likely her dad tried to braid her hair at some point and sucked at it. Not a huge mystery. It's not like she's in a box, she's seen movies and pictures.
Fake flowers...they were flowers that weren't real. IE: Fake flowers. They have plastic you know, it's only been 9 years, this isn't the future or some crap.
Stuffed bunny...wow...are you suggesting that a 9 year old growing up largely in isolation wouldn't have an imagination?
None of these are good examples of her knowing too much. It might be an apocalyptic movie but it's not in the future and it was shown that they had been using that warehouse from the beginning so she'd have had access to all kinds of toys at some point.
They didn't have to completely spell out what happened between the two men and how the wife was killed and it didn't hurt the movie. Because as the viewer you're supposed to be able to use your own imagination to fill in the gaps.
It makes sense if you have even the slightest bit of imagination. And I'd say the kid was pretty far from normal, she thought China was like 40 minutes away.
NB2 : the first part is very very uncomfortable & painful to watch but it's worth it for the cinema magic that happen in the second half so if you watch don't give up in the middle (we almost did & were so so glad we didn't, my wife as well, and that was a huge deal for her, as a mother & sensible person to go through that first half). a truely great cinema experience with a lot of questions asked around that
growing up inside, alone with 1 person your entire life
and the idea of being alive (which is what art is all about isn't it?)
