So, if they don't have a reflection...

Then wouldn't they not show up on film? Hmmm. I'm sure the film's hilarious, but they probably should have left out the whole "no reflection" thing.

reply

It's a comedy. It doesn't matter.

reply

Well aren't you just so smart and full of helpful witticisms.

reply

Because mirrors have a coat of silver behind the glass. The silver is what betrays them as vampires

early photography didn't use film at all. The light-sensitive chemicals were formed on the surface of a silver-plated copper sheet. maybe they dont show up on those?

However film has silver halide crystals and black and white photography has a layer of silver salts. Maybe those are 'different enough' that they show up.

At the end of the day though, its a movie. and in the movie universe they decided that mirrors dont reflect vampires but film and digital cameras do capture their image.

reply

With that philosophy of digital cameras, they could then "see" themselves perfectly. All they have to do is use any smart phone and use the front facing camera. They now have a mirror with which to see themselves.

reply

And once Stu entered the scene and showed them all the technology they used it, remember the scene where the 'sexy' guy was taking selfies...

reply

correct.. hence why we see them in the footage the cameramen are shooting.

reply

Yeah, but that isn't nearly as funny

"Gold buys a mans silence for a time. A bolt to the heart buys it forever"

reply

WTF are you both talking about?

Digital cameras have nothing to do with mirrors and silver.

Cameras capture the light reflected from their body surface and save the information as bytes. Ones and zeroes. Through electronics.

Why shouldn't they bee seen on a digital movie?

reply

Digital cameras have nothing to do with mirrors

ever heard of reflex cameras?

reply

when Stu modernized the vamps (computers, etc) and they started taking pictures of each other i was like "huh?" but the movie is so good i didn't even care. lol.

reply

Digital photos don't use mirrors with silvered glass.

Some expensive cameras still do, but not cell phones and pocket cameras.

reply

It's a comedy, don't bother looking for logical inconsistencies.

reply

I can't actually believe your picking holes like that in a film about Vampires sharing a flat in New Zealand.

"Fellas, don't drink that coffee! There was a fish....... IN the percolator!"

reply

Some cameras use mirrors, some don't. An SLR camera uses a mirror, they shouldn't show up on pictures taken with an SLR. However, most modern cameras are mirrorless, so yeah, the vampires could be photographed because no mirrors are involved.

reply

The reason there's a mirror in an SLR camera is so that the operator can see an exact representation of the image in the viewfinder. When you press the shutter, the mirror moves up (thus the viewfinder goes blank for the duration of the shot) and the curtain behind it exposes the image. The mirror isn't used for the actual photograph so there would be no difference in using an SLR or a mirrorless digital camera.

reply

being caught on camera isn't a reflection plus I think it is kind of a clever thing because what ever magic governs vampires and the supernatural never took into account video cameras because they were not around at the beginning , some vampire films include both but the two thing are completely different. why can vampires have their portrait drawn also

reply

"being caught on camera isn't a reflection"

Yes, it is. People are not a light source, therefore when you see a person, or a camera "sees" a person, it is reflected light that you're seeing, i.e., a reflection. That's why, if you eliminate all light sources (such as by going into a room with no windows or lights and closing the door), you can't be seen, neither by a person nor a camera.

When you see yourself in a mirror you are seeing a reflection of a reflection.
