Well it was nice knowing you all - Stupid IMDb

IMDb has really screwed up. I don't do SM so won't have a way to talk to other board users. Grrrrrr Please everyone complain to IMDb and maybe they'll change their minds.

IMDb is the world’s most popular and authoritative source for movie, TV and celebrity content. As part of our ongoing effort to continually evaluate and enhance the customer experience on IMDb, we have decided to disable IMDb’s message boards on February 20, 2017. This includes the Private Message system. After in-depth discussion and examination, we have concluded that IMDb’s message boards are no longer providing a positive, useful experience for the vast majority of our more than 250 million monthly users worldwide. The decision to retire a long-standing feature was made only after careful consideration and was based on data and traffic.

Increasingly, IMDb customers have migrated to IMDb’s social media accounts as the primary place they choose to post comments and communicate with IMDb’s editors and one another. IMDb’s Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/imdb) and official Twitter account (https://twitter.com/imdb) have an audience of more than 10 million engaged fans. IMDb also maintains official accounts on Snapchat (https://www.snapchat.com/add/imdblive), Pinterest (https://www.pinterest.com/imdbofficial/), YouTube (https://www.youtube.com/imdb), and Tumblr (http://imdb.tumblr.com/).

Because IMDb’s message boards continue to be utilized by a small but passionate community of IMDb users, we announced our decision to disable our message boards on February 3, 2017 but will leave them open for two additional weeks so that users will have ample time to archive any message board content they’d like to keep for personal use. During this two-week transition period, which concludes on February 19, 2017, IMDb message board users can exchange contact information with any other board users they would like to remain in communication with (since once we shut down the IMDb message boards, users will no longer be able to send personal messages to one another). We regret any disappointment or frustration IMDb message board users may experience as a result of this decision.

IMDb is passionately committed to providing innovative ways for our hundreds of millions of users to engage and communicate with one another. We will continue to enhance our current offerings and launch new features in 2017 and beyond that will help our customers communicate and express themselves in meaningful ways while leveraging emerging technologies and opportunities.

Apparently, Jeff Bezos/Amazon owns imdb. I don't really buy their explanation. I'm really disappointed. I really enjoyed using this as a resource to find out more about a movie or an actor. I can't help but think that this is just one step towards losing our free speech. I don't like FB. I wasn't very active here - but I enjoyed reading lots of the comments on threads that appealed to me.

I share your thoughts, it is somehow spurious reasoning.
These boards were unique for several reasons. It was not just feeding the egos of the folks who wrote here, it was to the benefit of several parties as well. A one-stop address for anything relating to a production.
Facebook is not an alternative to the content potential these boards had. Especially to my liking was IMDb's independent character (no groups). Not comparable to anything I have seen with a comments function (fansites, blogs, newsppers, etc).
A user of this board started a group and continues the discussion on a Google-website. Maybe this might be a good alternative for you. There is a link in thread "If I create an Outlander group."

But nothing Outlander. And you have to wade through multiple threads/folders to get to anything.

Just post in the suggestion board for an Outlander board. The Whovians are doing the same thing and the admin is cool with it.

This really makes me sad. I've been a lurker/occasional poster on the IMDB boards for over ten years and I can't think of any other place that can replace it. You have all TV shows and movies on one site, with one layout and system for all, no need to search for a good site for each individual show or movie you might want to discuss or read about.

Social media like Facebook or Twitter is not an option, they aren't designed for this type of in depth discussion and community that some of the boards on IMDB have. They also broadcast everything you write to all your "friends", which is something I want to avoid. Sure, there are some boards here that are so troll infested that they are best avoided, like the GOT board. But for smaller/older shows and movies the boards are almost always helpful. Like if I'm thinking of a scene in a movie I just saw I might check the IMDB boards and almost always there will be a discussion about it. Or I might find a topic about something I completely missed and it will give me new perspective. I enjoy reading other peoples impressions and interpretations although I rarely feel the need to post myself.

I probably won't visit IMBD anymore, maybe when I'm watching something and think "where have I seen that guy before". Ugh, it's such a shame, and it's been bothering me for days so I just needed to vent a little.

I think I'll miss this board especially when the new season airs, there have been a lot of insightful and interesting discussions here, with minimal trolling. So thanks to all you regulars for making the Outlander board such a great place for lurkers like me!

You can set up a closed group on Facebook - I belong to two or three and only the members of that group can post, see posts etc.

However, you are right they are not really set up for discussions and different thread. They are not bad for sharing photographs as you can set up albums but I think anything else is more difficult.

IA, while I may come to IMDB to verify some fact, mostly I went to the boards to because they usually had the scope on a production or actor that the 'official' pages had yet to post.

Now that I started looking around, I found there are several boards going. I guess everyone is starting something to go to when imdb closes its forum. Here are a few I don't think were mentioned yet.
