Everybody Wants Dull

Dazed And Confused was chock full of well-written interesting and funny varied characters, good and bad, that you actually cared about and felt like you were hanging out with. In every scene, there was something engaging that occurred that propelled the narrative forward, kept your interest going and brought you closer to their world. Everybody Wants Some was just a group of uninteresting jocks (looking like they were in their mid to late 30s for some reason) plopped into a picture-perfect 80s setting, reading what sounded like a rough outline of a script. No natural dialogue, just stilted conversation that sounded almost like a high school play. I wished Linklater spent half as much time on the script as he did getting the look of the film right.

Yeah, this film was just a nostalgia trip for Linklater. I agree.

From a mainstream POV, Dazed will be the ultimate and most fun Linklater film. Similar to how Magnolia is the epitome of P.T. Anderson's San Fernando Valley films.

This could have been a lot better than it was.

The actors were good, the dialogue was good. The events and themes of the movie were just pretty meh.

reply

Agreed. I couldnt make it past the first hour.

Completely agree. On paper I should have loved it. Only way I could finish it is by fiddling with my tablet. Didn't care about any of the characters. Cardboard cutouts.

I agree completely with you. I loved Dazed so I was excited for EWS. I started watching and halfway through I was still waiting for something to happen. It isn’t a terrible movie by any means but just shockingly average and dull. Where were the interesting and believable characters? I can’t remember any of the characters tbh . Where was the charm ? It was completely lacking and the anti-climactic ending just left me scratching my head

Random brainless jocks acting like random brainless jocks. Easily Linklater's lamest film. And that's saying something.
