How can i start trusting imdb ratings?

I agree with everyone who think this movie sucked.
The plot: they killed his litlle puppy that he got from hes dead wife, i like animals but kill like 50 people for a puppy(and his car) is ridiculous even if they are evil gangstas.

*spoiler*

it made me smile when he gets a new dog in the end, because it was so stupid.

How can K.Reeves ever come back after this?

Would you please name drop some good action movies from 2014 that you liked instead ?

I must say I loved it! Keanu Reeves best sens "The Replacements 2000" I relay liked how they shoot all the action scenes!

If you ask me this was "Keanu Reeves" return!

To answer the question in the title:

IMDd ratings are quite accurate for the most part, you just need to know how to read them! He is how I read them:

8+: Brilliant movie
7.X: Good movie
6.X: Solid movie
5.X: Don't expect much
below 5 or lower: Trash

Add about 0.5 for comedies and substract about 0.5 for dramas. Then subtract or add about 0.2 for each thing you are biased against, so if you hate Keanu Reeves, subtract 0.2. And then adjust for your preferences in genre, shifting one category when the rating is between categories.
And be aware that if you are a buff in a particular category, you can still find gems in the 5.x slot

So, applying this to John Wick, it's a 7.2, which means it starts out as a "great" movie but since you seem to not like action movies (because you complained about the lack of a deeper story, something action movies aren't known for), that makes it a solid movie, which John Wick is, because no matter how dull or ridiculous you may think it is, you have to admit that the action was done well.

K.Reeves will come back with John Wick 2 which is confirmed due to the overwhelming popularity of this film. I'm sorry but you just don't get it, and that in itself is quite funny.

This. It's the same thing with Mad Max: Fury Road; people who can't distinguish genres and can't extrapolate the film's intent in respect to it, and/ or demand/ need the plot to be spoon-fed with exposition in a visual medium.

Honestly .. !! you cant.. this movie is an example for it .. uh..😷

Whatever happened to watching a movie?

reply

Chances are...

... if its a comic book movie, the rating is inflated at least 2 points. Note, Edge of Tomorrow (genuinely good)type movies will not apply here.

... even if its not a comic book movie, but could pass as one (recent F&F movies) its inflated.

... if its an R rated movie, that happens to have a quality that is slightly above stright to DVD, it is inflated (John Wick). Note, Expendables type (S2DVD) will not apply here. Nor will Sicario or Nightcrawler (genuinely good).

... If its directred by Fichner/Nolan/Scorecese and co, its inflated.

Basically, anything that has a series of fanboys, comic book obviously and rapid fans like Nolan, will be inflated.

Yeah.

Translation: "Comic book movies are bad, except when they're not."

I don't think it's because of the puppy and the car alone.

I believe that it has to do with John knowing that Iosef will do this to others, most likely innocent people.

Did Iosef knew who's care he stole? Who's dog he killed? Would he have done it if he knew it was John Wick? Most likely not. He thought John was an single man with a dog, and no fighting skills. He was a dangerous, loose canon. John knew that and took care of him.

It's okay. You're just too stupid and\or emotionally stunted to actually understand John's motivation.
