Was okay. but couldn't get past differences in physical attractiveness
A poor Jon Favreau is not going to receive affection from a wealthy Sophia Vergara. Also, is not going to bed a Scarlett Johansson.
shareA poor Jon Favreau is not going to receive affection from a wealthy Sophia Vergara. Also, is not going to bed a Scarlett Johansson.
shareNot necessarily...I'm really attracted to confidence...no matter what the guy looks like. I've dated total hot guys that I wasn't nearly as attracted to as a funny, okay looking charmer.
shareYou are sitting home to much---I see hundreds of gorgeous women with all kinds of men. In fact here is SF the are older guys on their last legs with drop dead lookers from every country in the world. The whole point of the movie is that the chef is a truly warm, creative and lovable guy. Who would deny that?
share... Never dated a Latina, haven't you?
You'll be surprise to see some of the trolls those girls let near them. But a funny guy who's also an amazing cook? That's a dream come true for most of them!
Plus Sofia Vergara sold the hell of the affection her character, Inez, had for Casper - I could granted you that Scarlett Johansson's Molly was a reach, but I never doubt for a second that this woman was and remained deeply into that guy.
Lesson to you here: most latin women have different standards than the average caucasian chicks.
So you are saying white chicks are shallow idiots?
shareWell that's blanket generalization you just drop there, didn't you?
Having different standards when it comes to their potential mates doesn't prevent Latinas to also be shallow and/or stupid.
Their taste in men are just different, that's all.
That whole 'white chicks are shallow idiots' line, though... don't put this on me. That's solely coming from you.
looks like you were indicating that.
I think it's more of an age thing than anything. Younger chicks in general care more about looks.
Nah - you thought I was indicating that.
Look at my comments... it's right there, not saying anything remotely negative against white women - hell, 'dated enough of them to know better than to view than as shallow idiots!
The thing kinda makes sense, but, as I said before, I have seen enough young latin women going out with straight-up repulsive man-things to know there's something more there.
Move to the deep south. Plenty of attractive young white girls with fat rednecks.
shareHeh, I was thinking the opposite, but when I lived in "The South" it was a military town, so the guys there all had to stay in shape, while most girls were on a mission to get a military guy so they could pop out a few kids and get active military benefits.
shareOne could assume his character was slimmer when they first married.

hmm I personally don't see either of these two women as very attractive according to Hollywood standards. Attractiveness is just usually in your own way of perceiving it
shareWho cares? They play exes, & besides she went for RDJ's stupid character before and after him lols.
I put it that Favs wasn't so heavy 12yrs ago (kid's age?) when she & he hooked up.
I see it all the time. A (seemingly) average-looking guy with a very attractive woman. A woman's looks are much more important to a guy than a guy's looks are to a woman. Maturity, intelligence, confidence, loyalty, FIDELTY, sense of humor....all these things trump a guy's looks, at least for mature (regardless of age) women. It may also partly explain why younger women are attracted to older men. The things that make men attractive to women generally get better with age; the things that make women attractive to men often fade with age. It may not be fair, but that's the way it is.
shareI agree totally. There are many, many movies and situations where ordinary-looking guys get the attractive women.
I also agree that it doesn't seem fair that in the romcoms, pudgy, average women don't get attention from conventionally handsome guys.
And I (as a woman) disagree completely with the original poster. First of all, I don't see how one's own appearance affects who you're attracted to. There are tons of women--whether they, themselves are attractive or not---who would go for a warm, funny, sensitive, unattached teddy-bear of a guy who's a fantastic cook and who has the added draw of fame, or even notoriety.
i would say the less attractive guy getting the hot girl is CLASSIC.
less attractive girl getting the hot guy does not exist. i heard one person hear saying they witnessed that in soCal but i don't see it and we CERTAINLY don't see it on film. heck, shallow hal showed an obese woman getting JACK BLACK. and this was only because he had some kind of hypnotism that prevented him from seeing what she really looked like, physically. OOH, WHAT A PRIZE! jack black, be still my heart! hahaha!
Or how about Jack Black getting Kate Winslet in "Holiday"? Seth Rogan getting Katherine Heigl in "Knocked Up".

You nailed it----looks will always fade (for both men and women) but personality strength of character, intelligence, and thoughtfulness last a hell of a lot longer, and are way more substantial.
Trust me - Jon Favreau's character was hot in this movie! Trust me on that. He's a man confident in his passion - plus he's a MAN. Someone who does what he loves without fail and doesn't have a problem with burns or stitches.
It's like Tony Soprano was sexy because he's a man. Totally worked for me and my hot friends. A man in a man.
For the role reversal analogy...it's something that we all should really look, but it doesn't apply for this movie. A better film(s) to look at is Seth Rogen would NOT be with a Rose Byrne in Neighbors or any of his other films with attractive girls. Because that character is dream character for all those nerds and fanboys out there. Characters like him would NOT be with an attractive girl because they are boys, and unfortunately NOT men.
Not to sound too judgy, but Jon Favreau's character wouldn't have a problem in a physical conflict as Rogen and his band of Apatow nerds would. And that's the difference - a man and boys.
