What's so great about this show

I've never watched Rick and Morty, so I'm not dissing the show or anything like that, I'm just curious as to why this show has such a high IMDB rating and is recommended by a lot of people.

As a fan of shows like The Simpsons, Family Guy, Futurama, American Dad and South Park, do you recommend I give Rick and Morty a chance? What age group is it aimed at(like is it a kids cartoon,an adult cartoon, somewhere in between)?

It's even made me sad at times and introduced me to some great music.

It's intelligent, funny (both blatant and subtle), it's full of twisted sex stuff, dark humor, interesting plots twists and loops, it's continuous (i.e.e what happened last episode is not forgotten in the nextepisode), and it's just hilarious.

No comparison to The Simpsons or (yech) Family Guy. Intelligence and cool level of The Venture Bros. and Robot Chicken.

American Dad is the worst Sh*t cartoon ever made.

"Dude, it's Lord Goblin King, not Lord Go Blinking!"

It's a show that most people will be offended by (people for some reason enjoy being offended). Those of us who enjoy the show who aren't whiny little bitches will enjoy the show.

I apologise in advance for what I'm about to say, but... Dude you're so wrong about AD! In fact, I would say certain episodes have the same level of dry wit and sci-fi obsession that I love about R&M. Granted, American Dad never takes itself as seriously as Rick and Morty sometimes does, and most of the recent post-FOX episodes haven't featured the deliriously giddy Dadaist surrealism that fans have come to expect. That said, calling American Dad "the worst Sh*t cartoon ever made" seems VERY strong. You mentioned the Venture Bros. That show has characters who are part of a familial dynamic that isn't too dissimilar from the one portrayed on American Dad. I guess I just don't understand why people love certain cartoons but hate others. I like all the shows you mentioned.

It has a mind of its own and does not try to copy-cat every other tv-show...

Its a hilarious, very creative show. But I'd disagree with the posters that said it leaves you thinking... Comon. Feel free to elaborate tho.

To me, what makes this show interesting is its originality and the fact its plots are so different.

It doesn't have a set formula yet like Dexter. I have a 6 year old and sometimes I write stories with her and we make a book. I take great pride in making the most "out there" plotlines which, when people read, are impressed by.

When I saw this, I was like "Man, these people are on the same wave length as me." It is extremely imaginative which really keeps it fresh. You can't predict the plots which, to me, is the #1 thing I like about a show. There is nothing worse than watching some romantic comedy where I can tell

1) first half can have a few funny jokes
2) about an hour in boy loses girl. Any attempts at comedy at this point are gone.
3) boy gets girl back

Disney movies are like this. So formulatic. Hey...I have an idea...let's make a movie about...a princess!
