Lucas probably regrets putting her in charge, since he was visibly disappointed when they rejected his script for new episodes.

Disney made sequels which were in the same vein as prequels.
Basically, George fucked it up first - disney was just the icing on the cake.

George fucked up the direction and the dialogues, not the story per se. The story was actually pretty good.
