western and horror don't go together

is why i haven't watched it.

reply

Yes they do, you need to broaden your horizons from your current taste in transformers and marvel movies

reply

This just shows your own ignorance about film. Either try to broaden our horizons with your own thoughtful discussion or stfu.

reply

This was an effective horror movie that happens to be a western. So yes I’d say it’s effective and works.

reply

It's not a Horror, at least not according to the director himself. And I sort of agree

4/5s of the movie is character study stuff and tension-building

It's much better than most modern Westerns, including better than the True Grit remake, the Magnificent Seven remake, Django Unchained, Hateful Eight, The Revenant, Hostiles, and The Sisters Brothers. I'm serious

reply

Sadly, it is better than the movies you listed, except the True Grit remake and The Revenant IMO. I say "sadly" because Bone Tomahawk was not that great itself. I found the characters and the action drab and the dialogue full of forced Tarantinoesque non-sequitor moments.

reply

The Revenant was awfully pretentious and drab. Nobody is still watching that turd

True Grit was ok, it wasn't depressing, boring, and pretentious like Revenant. But just feels like a bunch of famous actors and famous directors getting together to make a big prestigious hollywood circlejerk

reply

Way better than Cowboys and Aliens...

reply

This is gory but it is not quite a horror film. The protagonists are stalking the killer tribe as an act of revenge. Horror films don’t usually have that story arc. They are usually about people who cannot escape the killer or entity stalking them.

reply

It's not pure horror, it's a horror western, maybe has a bit more western than horror but it has body disfigurements and a body count so it's got horror elements lol

reply

I'm embarrassed to admit it, but it was so silly but entertaining, in a very stupid way.

reply

Yes they do. This one just didn’t do a good job of it. Nothing is horrific until the last scene. Waste of a good cast.

reply

I personally find western/horror to be an interesting hybrid. There's really not many examples of them in film, though. Ravenous comes to mind, which I enjoyed.

This movie is also pretty solid--you should give it a chance.

reply

It isn’t a western/horror film, it is a western film in which horrific things happen. You should absolutely give it a watch, the acting is topshelf across the board, and the the story is wholly original as well as well written.

reply

This. It's a western with some horror elements. It's pretty good (the acting is certainly outstanding by all).
