Another PC diversity-focused remake of a classic.

Ben Hur, now this mess. What's next? Lawrence of Arabia starring Will Smith? LOL.

Here's the original. (Ignore the sappy singing at the trailer start. It had nothing to do with Bernstein's famous score.

Ok, so what do you make of the decades of westerns where whites played the role of Native Americans? Burt Lancaster, Chuck Connors, Rock Hudson, etc. Give me a break.

reply

LMAO. Exactly

Seriously? The west was THE diverse place at that time, so it makes sense it shouldn't be all white guys. It makes sense to have the different races. Because different cultures incorporate different skills. I hate political correctness as much as the next guy, but I really don't think theres a reason not to be stoked for this movie.

reply

Why not? That Moses film with Christian Bale had a white guy play Ramesses II, but I guess it's not politically correct when whites insert themselves in a story that they were never a part of in the first place?

If you are annoyed by the race/ethnicity of the actors in the remake, here's a thought: stop looking at the race/ethnicity of the actors.

Just sit back, shut up and enjoy the movie; or not. It's not like they just grabbed a diverse group of nobodies. I think a few Academy Award winners are in it but I could be wrong.

I know, right? It's ridiculous - like remaking Seven Samurai but replacing all the Asian characters with white men.

reply

LOL.

Call the burn unit!

While The Magnificent Seven is a remake of Seven Samurai, aside from the basic plot, it's very different. Not to mention one is set in the old American west while the other is set Japan. Basically, it was not a direct remake. If they had called it the same exact title and had it located in Japan, while changing nothing aside from making the actors white, you'd have a point in suggesting the 1960 film was "whitewashing" or racist. A more accurate example would have to be The Grudge; the American remake changes nothing aside from having a white lead actress.

reply

The original Mag 7 was still white washed like most westerns from that period.

Cry some more little batch

maybe they were chosen because they were GOOD ACTORS

Just saw the trailer...OP you're a fool & I'm glad to actually read some common sense posts on here!

It is a well known fact that blacks, Chinese, and Native Americans played an important part in shaping the West. The only way it could be PC is if Yul Brynner's character was turned in to a trans woman-of-color, Steve McQueen in to a demi-queer agender Muslim, and James Coburn in to an elf-kin trans-lesbian blogger with autism.

Mobin couldn't hack it.
