Denzel and Hollywood colorblind?

Good movie but I was frustrated at how the story takes place in the 1800's and nobody gives attention to Denzel being a Black man, Nobody, unreal. They mention the Mexican and the Native American, but not the Black man, I guess Denzel has transcended above and beyond his Blackness.

There were some looks and hunched shoulders when he walked into the bar.

Translation: I didn't get to hear them demean and call a black man ni**er fifty thousand times in this movie like in every other 19th c period movie made in the last 100 years so I could feel better about myself. A black brave fearless - and feared - hero of film acting all uppity without the trump card six letter word thrown at him?? Oh HELL no, that gets my panties in a twist. I wont stand for it.
