Anyone Else Find it Too Predictable?

This movie was disappointing because I thought it was too easy to figure out. Obvious clues are obvious. The character's face is changed at the beginning of the movie. They won't show the face of the woman's lover. The sex change story. The mysterious bomber. All of it seemed to point to the same obvious conclusion and it kind of neutered the story (pun intended).

Did anyone else have this same issue?

reply

No. I did not find it predictable at all.

Of course you know there's a mystery because they're not showing the faces of a lot of characters, but I would've never guessed that they're basically the same person as Ethan Hawke and Sarah.

i have to admit that i didn't think a movie maker will be stupid enough to screw himself (i pray the brothers don't screw each other for god's sake) i laughed so hard, thank god i wasn't in a movie theater. but after this point the movie was so easily predictable for its second half which was lame. but what stopped me from giving it a one star, was the underlying conspiracy theory, though i don't believe in it. that the illuminati are responsible for 9/11 and they should go and fock themselves.

Well, it is based on a Robert Heinlein story, and he was all into incest and worse, so the protagonist having sex with himself could be expected. :D

I love scifi, and timetravelling is very interesting, so I wanted so much to like this, and kind of did although I very early knew what was going on and what was going to happen because the filmmakers made it too obvious, except the very ending, I expected a final twist, but that was the "he/she/bomber is the same person", which I already figured out very early in the movie. Very disappointing ending.. it was built like a BIG surprise but fell totally flat. Shame. Had potential but too revealing storytelling and a weak ending.

This is gonna be hard for you to understand.

There's no such thing as figuring a story out. All you can do is take a guess at where the story-teller is gonna take things.

And at what point did you "figure out" that the baby's parents were 2 versions of itself? Or do you even now understand that part of the story? See, you weren't nearly as "right" as you thought you were.

Very much my view here. The film-makers threw down the ingredients and you have an idea where the film my lead to but not exactly sure how or why.

It's that man again!!

Spot on right there.

Yes and no. I did call every twist in the story, but firstly I don't know if that's because I just watch too many time travel stories that my brain just makes those leaps. But regardless, I enjoyed it even having figured everything out because it was so well paced, presented and performed.

reply

No, personally I did not find it predictable. Certain parts, yes, but not the whole connection. I didn't totally get it until the very end, and I doubt I'm really that unique in this respect.

reply

Maybe, but you cannot foresee the most important point of the movie: that he is preventing even greater tragedies from happening in a manner of "the lesser of two evils" and that all of that is predestined by his Boss.

reply

Yes, to be honest I was quite shocked when Ethan Hawkes character showed his scars for the camera. I wasn't shocked because I at that point realised that he was actually John/Jane, but I was shocked that the film makers thought it would be a surprise.
I did enjoy the movie, but most of the events and "twists" was so obvious that I didn't even know if it was on purpose or not... That was puzzling.
