Anyone Else Find it Too Predictable?

This movie was disappointing because I thought it was too easy to figure out. Obvious clues are obvious. The character's face is changed at the beginning of the movie. They won't show the face of the woman's lover. The sex change story. The mysterious bomber. All of it seemed to point to the same obvious conclusion and it kind of neutered the story (pun intended).

Did anyone else have this same issue?

reply

Yep, but still enjoyed the movie.

I feel the same. In the original story is less obvious.
If you put a faceless character who have to "remake" his face in the first five minutes you are too obvious.
If you donĀ“t show the face of the other characters at least you have to put some suspects of the real identity in your story, like a police "whodunnit", the only other characters was Robertson, and he was so little he was discarted inmediately.

Definitely predictable even with the fact it's a massive paradox though it admits it is.

Even tho I had read the story they did some regiggering that threw me a little, so I didn't catch the clues till about 3/4ths the way in. That did not hurt my enjoyment of the story.

reply

Yep.

Very beginning of the movie, with the quote, 'the man who ruined your life, would you kill him?'

I was like 'the man who ruined my life, lol you mean myself'?

Oh yippie yay, look how the movie turned out.

reply

Yes it was obvious what the "twist" was - I agree

I saw the movie on a plane, knowing nothing about it, and didn't realize until about half-way through that it was based on 'All You Zombies', but I pretty much figured out what was going on by then.

Personally, like Fight Club, I think it's a better movie when you do know what's going on. I just watched it again tonight, and there are a ton of little details that I only noticed on later viewings. Things that seemed like throwaway lines the first time through that are far more meaningful later.

Even something as obvious as 'Pop's Place' for the name of the bar took a few viewings to spot...

Same... which was funny because at the time, I hadn't read that short story in years, but it had come to mind only a month or so before watching this. I'm surprised at how long into the movie it took me to realize it was actually "All You Zombies".

I didn't find it too predictable at all, not ashamed to say it.
