My god what a mooshy smooshy dribble crybaby piece of crap this movie was. It's all so outdated. Boohoo I'm a business woman who can't juggle her husband and child boohooo. I could almost hear the director saying "please Anne let the waterworks go......now!" Boohoo boohoo. And why is there always a kid in these kind of movies that is way too wise for their age. Kids are usually just fighting, asking for candy and crying about their vegetables. Who believes this crap anyway. And ugh that husband character. That story about that their kid said humongous. That almost made me barf.
Well, I was disapointed too. It was clear from the start, that Ben will show those kids some things, he´ll learn them how to live... OK. No surprise whatsoever. He was just like the fairy gordother: any problem - he solves it. And those weepy scenes were boring. Mrs. Harris Goes To Paris had the same message - and was much more interesting (a cleaning woman saving pennies to buy a Dior dress in the fifties - and by the way helps fashion people with her cockney wits).
I am going to disagree with you guys. I just finished it and I liked it. I thought it was an interesting departure for de Niro and Anne Hathaway is always fun to watch.
I just got done watching it and I really enjoyed it! I'm not usually one for light and easy movies, but I found it humorous and engaging. Not every movie has to be "deep"...sometimes you just want to watch and smile :)
I loved this film. De Niro was a mentor without being instructive, more like a fairy godfather who by his calm, caring personality was an influence. The last scene with the Tai Chi group was a perfect ending.
I watched it a few hours ago and I didn't like the ending originally, but having thought about it more, it was fine. I believe the message of it (the tai chi scene) was that age, experience and wisdom tells you to relax, take things easy and it will work out in the end. Additionally, that they had a bond as lifetime friends.
Oh my God, it was pretty bad. Usually I don't watch romantic comedies but thought if De Niro and Hathaway are in it, it has to have some substance. Dialogue was cliche, comedy was forced (wtf was all that about breaking and entering into Jules' mom's house?), husband's character is totally undefined, De Niro is smiling always without reason, Jules' kid is unbearable the way she turns everytime towards Ben to ask for a favour, you just see it coming every damn time. It was pretty bad. (5.5/10)
~ Well, if this is it, old boy, I hope you don't mind if I go out speaking the King's ~
Why is everyone saying this is a romantic comedy? Was Anne Hathaway supposed to fall in love with DeNiro or something??
Anyways, this is a type of movie that is all but forgotten in today's world. Sure it's super cliché. Sure, we all knew what was going on. Sure the kid could be seen as annoying. But this is just a feel-good type of movie, in my opinion. A movie that shows that it is possible that things can work themselves out if you stick with it.
Did it have the best dialogue? Did it have terrible acting? That's all subjective. But as a straight 27 year old male, I couldn't stop watching. I felt it was a charming movie. Definitely not one of the greatest, but my time spent watching it for sure was not wasted.
