'How did men go from Jack Nicholson and Harrison Ford to...'

The same way women went from Marilyn Monroe to you.

Yeah I found that line to be man bashing to be honest. How does she think it changed the way it did? A Social Movement in the 60's that sparked huge change in society and gender roles, you can also add technology moving forward so that more jobs became about computers rather than trade based.

I saw the whole idea as a way of saying "Men don't serve women anymore" the carrying a handkerchief just in case a woman needs one is a symbol of that.

And the examples, Harrison Ford's most famous role was a Space Pirate (Han Solo) and the other one was Indian Jones a character set in the 1930's.

Jack is another good one, The Shinning, anyone???

I get what she's saying, to an extent...

I'm in my 40s. When I was younger, I was considered a very sensitive guy. Not really tough or 'macho' or anything. Not a Harrison Ford at all.

But now, I'm feeling more like Ford, and it's not me that has changed. It's society.

I work with a lot of younger women, and they tell me about their boyfriends. They're scared of scary movies, one's scared of birds, one's scared of spiders, one's scared of clowns...a few can barely bring themselves to talk on the phone since they're so used to texting and such.

I am AMAZED by this.

At their age, I remember being scared of Russia, natural disasters and walking through really bad neighborhoods. My friends and I were stupidly brave in lot of ways.

What happened???

I'm 42 now and I feel the same way. When I was younger I was far from being macho at all. Now though compared to today's men, I am seriously rough and tough.

Helicopter parenting, in part. Kids are discouraged from taking any risks in childhood and adults are always watching over them to ward off any danger. Children need the opportunity to explore the world on their own, take chances and deal with bad consequences on a small scale so they can learn how to judge risk and avoid problems as they grow up. I remember a businessman recently relating his frustration with these immature "adults" interviewing for jobs at his company. One kid actually asked if he could call his parents to discuss the job offer on the table. (The company immediately withdrew the job offer.)

While I can see the offense of Hathaway's rant, I understand where she's coming from. Think of the situation in the movie: the older guy is hired by young people, most of whom make condescending comments in the interview. After a week or so, he's made himself indispensable, and by this point in the movie, he's become the leader of the interns. Why? Because he's emotionally mature and can handle risk-taking. That's the real difference between him and his fellow interns. They're not harkening back to a time when men were in charge and women were subservient.

Ever saw Parental Guidance (2012)?

What an underrated social critique as well as family comedy.

People always look back with rose colored glasses. If we all jumped in a time machine and went back 30 years ago. People would be saying not just men but younger generation isn't tough, hard working, spoiled and BLAH BLAH. Plenty of different men still exist and if you ladies don't know any good guys. You need to change yourself and get out more.

I really wouldn't try to overthink that line, it really is just throw away line.
It is certainly nothing to be indignant about.

Audrey Hepburn is much more classy than Marilyn Monroe in my opinion.

She was just magnificent in more ways than any Kardashian could dream to be.

I actually thought her comment was the same kind of sexist crap she didn't like hearing from men . . . but apparently the movie didn't underscore that or attempt to make that point.
