This is the worst Marvel series to date

I'm surprised they even thought to make a series on this. Nothing about this series felt like it was a tale of a Superhero or even Marvel comic. This was like watching a lifetime flick. It was extremely raunchy, redundant, lacking any real positive characters and actually it felt like it took forever to end it was very boring. 12-13 episodes about finding one very uninteresting villain with a dull ending. I'm not even sure why the picked such an uninteresting dull marvel B comic character like Jessica Jones to make a series on to begin with when there's so many other characters in the Marvel line up with better more interesting stories and villains. They could of chosen X-23,Spider Woman, Betsy Braddock they all pretty much have the someone messed up my head story line of Jessica Jones but are all 3X as much interesting to read about not to mention watch if they made a movie. It's clear this was a move to empower strong female leads but seriously was Jessica Jones the one they had to pick out of the Marvel line up? Jessica Jones? They might as well have made a TV show about Squirrel Girl. I await to read replies from people who just watched the series and think they know everything but never cracked open a Marvel comic book in their lives. If you think Jessica Jones was a good series or is a good Marvel Character you seriously don't know anything about the Marvel Universe.

Yeah, sure.

Nice try LOL

I get what you're saying. I actually liked Jessica Jones in Alias, less so when she became a supporting character in Avengers.

But it's obvious why they chose Jones. She gets in with the Hell's Kitchen street-level stories they want to tell on TV and yet she's not really a character with much name recognition or blockbuster movie to save for a future movie.

Spider-Woman is worth saving for a future movie and Marvel can't make TV shows based on X-Men characters. But Betsy will be in Apocalypse this summer and expect X-23 to show up soon once Jackman retires the claws.

I'm guessing that this series would be deeply unsatisfying to fans of the traditional superhero genre because the superheroes in this universe act more like traditional detective-film noir antiheroes than superheroes. They are deeply flawed and neurotic rather than pure-hearted and godlike. Also being having superpowers is seen as more of a liability than a benefit. Kilgrave's superpowers turn him into a sadistic predator and Jessica and Luke, at least when we first meet them, need all the strength they can get just to make it through their everyday lives. They have a lot more in common with Philip Marlowe and Kinsey Millhone than Batman and Superman.

You pretty much nailed it---that's exactly why I liked the series---it was more realistic and character-based than your average superhero show, which makes it unique. Traditional superhero series and movies are a dime-a-dozen now---this one definitely stands out---I could have done without all the damn gore,though---way too much of that.

I really like that kind of thing, I'm a fan of pulp style detective pieces, and a fan of crime dramas and thrillers, but JJ failed because Krysten Ritters performance rubbed me the wrong way. I really liked David Tennant as Killgrave, Mike Colter made me excited for the Cage series (although I'll like it more if Ritter is in it less), and the rest of the supporting cast was excellent, but every time it came back around to Ritter, I would groan. Her delivery was always unnaturally cadenced and her bitter demeanor felt forced. I'll keep watching because I watch everything comic book related (I want to support the genre if nothing else) but I definitely don't look forward to season 2.

I agree wholeheartedly, this is very well said. These are not the traditional superheros, they are flawed individuals. This is why I found the series so easy to relate to and why I'm currently enjoying Luke Cage so much. It may not be for everyone, however it doesn't mean these superheros as well a the villains aren't any less intriguing to the audience that enjoy this Marvel Universe.

Agents of the SHIELD is by far the worst.

They should have followed the source material more closely. Jones was nowhere near that abrasive in the Alias stories I read.

I think I know precisely what I mean when I say it's a shpadoinkle day!

The show was a decent watch. I prefer the comics. Jessica is more interesting in the Alias comic series.

this show isn't for kiddiewinks that wanna see violence. it was brilliant from beginning to end, idc if it stays true to the comic or not, i personally don't give two *beep* about comics. i watched it and it hit every nail i was hoping it would, good acting, cast, story, i can't wait for season 2.

I think it's a solid majority that hated this series. Forget fan loyalty and the fake IMDB ratings, this series was a big turn off to everyone that I've talked to.

reply

Well, I loved Jessica Jones. Of course "everyone that I've talked to" translates to "other people in my inner circle who agree with me". The majority of people liked the show. Even the critics liked the show.

Indeed. Not many people that I know liked this and most pretend it's not part of the MCU. We choose to focus on Daredevil.

How can they give this trash a season two?

Bill Murray in Groundhog Day - People like blood sausage too, people are morons.

Because the critics liked it, there was a lot of praise, and the Netflix suits liked what they saw, and decided to greenlight a second season. They don't read these IMDb pages.

The potential is there but given the same show runner and writers I don't have any high hopes at all.

This is by far the worst Marvel anything and I hope it stays that way. It's not awful but it can be called "bad." I don't want anything in the future to hit below this series because that will mean that Marvel finally made something awful. Don't even want to think about that...

I think there may be hope for season 2.
My theory is season 1 suffered from
1) Melissa Rosenberg only had a Jessica concept pilot from years ago and had to rush this season's script.
2) The rug was pulled from her when Luke Cage was pulled so the little she did have no had to be revamped on the fly.

But now she has over a year and knows exactly what is and not off limits.

"The critics are generally positive and it had really good ratings and imdb stars. But my three friends and I didn't like it, so all those other factors must be a lie and the majority hated it."
Seriously... Occam's Razor time. Either there's a vast media conspiracy to make a show look popular (to what ends? Why would Netflix fake results and pour money into further series of a product that is not being watched?) or your small, opposite-of-diverse friendship circle are just not the people that it's being made for.

this show was full retard.

the entire season could've been done in a 90 minute special and nothing would've been missed.
