This is the worst Marvel series to date

I'm surprised they even thought to make a series on this. Nothing about this series felt like it was a tale of a Superhero or even Marvel comic. This was like watching a lifetime flick. It was extremely raunchy, redundant, lacking any real positive characters and actually it felt like it took forever to end it was very boring. 12-13 episodes about finding one very uninteresting villain with a dull ending. I'm not even sure why the picked such an uninteresting dull marvel B comic character like Jessica Jones to make a series on to begin with when there's so many other characters in the Marvel line up with better more interesting stories and villains. They could of chosen X-23,Spider Woman, Betsy Braddock they all pretty much have the someone messed up my head story line of Jessica Jones but are all 3X as much interesting to read about not to mention watch if they made a movie. It's clear this was a move to empower strong female leads but seriously was Jessica Jones the one they had to pick out of the Marvel line up? Jessica Jones? They might as well have made a TV show about Squirrel Girl. I await to read replies from people who just watched the series and think they know everything but never cracked open a Marvel comic book in their lives. If you think Jessica Jones was a good series or is a good Marvel Character you seriously don't know anything about the Marvel Universe.

This is about the only good thing Marvel has made this decade

I can kinda agree with that.

Daredevil seems like it's slowly becoming Arrow tier, which is anything but a compliment. Too much crying between Karen, Foggy, and now making Elektra some secret weapon that people have been fighting over for a long time? That never happened in The Man Without Fear which is what the show is supposed to be based on. If anything, the Director's Cut with Ben Affleck was closer to nailing the aspects of the universe and the character more than the Netflix series has so far.

Arrow and the other CW garbage is nothing more than a soap opera still trying to convince its audience to take it seriously as a comicbook show when it's far from it. Season 1 of the Flash was pretty solid, but season two stumbled way too much and became too predicable. There were too many signs for me that the show is going to be ruled by what killed Arrow, the tumblr fanfiction shipbase.

Jessica Jones was a breath of fresh air in a time where most of the Comicbook adaptations try their hardest to shoehorn in too many jokes to remove any sense of risk, or seriousness. It's nice to finally get a Superhero medium with a hard boiled detective show that's in similar style and tone as Sin City. Luke Cage looks pretty promising as well, and I can't wait for that to come out next Friday.

It's regarded as such by everyone other than the feminist circles. There's a reason why Daredevil and Punisher got fast-tracked seasons whilst this was put on a three year hiatus.

The show had so much potential however the awful writing, direction and casting let it down completely. A shame as if done right it would have been much bigger. Luke Cage looks so much better and on par with Daredevil.

Still lightyears ahead of Feige's dumbed down rubbish nonetheless.

If you knew anything about Marvel Comics or the MCU, you would be aware that they can't use X-23 or Psylocke because they are Mutants and they don't have the rights to use the X-Men or Mutants, and they won't use Jessica Drew/Spider-Woman because the Spiderverse falls under Sony and while they are willing to go through the work and expenditures to get Spidey in the movies, they are not going to put their legal forces to work to deal with getting a show for Jessica Drew.
Jessica Jones is a fairly well known character (she's had several series and they have all sold well, BEFORE the show was even announced, both Alias and The Pulse) and her connection to Luke Cage (and in the future, the Avengers if they go that way) makes her a shoe in for part of the Defender's facet of the world that Netflix is dealing in. ALSO her powers are fairly cheap to do, special effects wise, unlike the characters you named, and her story has the 'gritty street level drama' that Netflix has been going for with all of their Marvel series.

BTW, Squirrel Girl is probably going to be in an upcoming animated series "New Warriors" so, all your nightmares are coming true. http://www.bleedingcool.com/2016/08/30/squirrel-girl-might-be-coming-to-the-small-screen-with-new-warriors-tv-show/

It's complicated. Half of the show looks like a WB series yes, and is pretty god awful, but the other half, specifically episodes 7 to 10, is probably the best work Marvel has done or anybody. The rest of Marvel's work, all films included, are actually kind of lame in comparison. Killgrave's story arc, specifically Dave Tennant's work is masterful, Breaking Bad was the best thing Krysten has been on but I think David and Krysten's work here, the writing, beats even that. It's bloody brilliant.

I agree but for a different reason; she's a whiney bitch and never stops moaning. I watched the first six episodes because others I know kept telling me how good it is, so I kept waiting for it to improve but . . . it didn't.

Or maybe it's because she's a rape survivor going through PTSD and that is her method of coping.

I don't recall that, but even so, who wants to watch that? It's not entertaining.

To quote someone from earlier in the page, I'm guessing that you don't like the series because you were expecting this to be more in the traditional superhero genre, given that across this show, Luke Cage, and Daredevil, the protagonists act more like they're antiheroes in traditional detective-film noir works (Luke Cage, for instance, is basically an MCU version of The Wire). They are deeply flawed and neurotic, rather than pure-hearted and godlike. And superpowers are more of a liability than a benefit. That is best shown in Jessica Jones: Simpson's Reds make him stronger but also cause him to go psychotic. Kilgrave's mind control turns him into a sadistic predator. Jessica and Luke, at least when we first meet them, are so broken that they need all the strength they can get just to make it through a normal day, Jessica because of the traumas from her time with Kilgrave, and Luke because he's on the run from the law and his wife died due to Kilgrave.

reply

I wasn't expecting anything except a dark-themed detective series. I'm really enjoying Luke Cage, but didn't know until today that the same character had also been in Jessica Jones. (And FYI, I couldn't watch the Wire because of the brutality)
I don't know Kilgrove or his backstory before tonight because he's just appeared in the Luke Cage I watched tonight, so I had to Google him to find out who he is, as it seems we (the viewers) are expected to know.
Thanks for the spoiler about Kilgrove and and Luke's wife.

All of that changes nothing: she's still a depressing, whiney bitch, but it seems I'll be going back and skimming through it now, to see how Luke fits into that story.

My thoughts from the beginning JJ is not important and not all that popular character period .The show did feel too much like a lifetime femlae empowerment piece instead of a comic super hero .First of all if this is who feminists chose to represent them in this universe than JJ's is a loser through and through .She is the worst example of the type of person why not pick a better example of a more empowering character like She-hulk.I'm currently watching Luke Cage and i think too myself why didn't they just start off with the luke cage series instead? .Why even bother making a JJ's the best part about JJ was luke cage to be honest.Luke Cage is 10x's better and more interesting and feels more like a comic book show as it should .JJ's was redundant because she had all these abilities and she could of ended kilgrave in the first episode .They did 13 episodes of this show it took her 13 episodes to take down a mortal human being ? its just stupid .She seems inadequate to do the basic things she plays victim the entire show how weak and pathetic is that and its not interesting either .

You have enemies? Good. That means you've stood up for something, sometime in your life.

.JJ's was redundant because she had all these abilities and she could of ended kilgrave in the first episode.

SHE DID NOT KNOW THAT SHE WAS IMMUNE TO KILGRAVE. Did you ever get that part? Furthermore, she wanted to keep Kilgrave alive in hopes that that would get Hope exonerated.

They did 13 episodes of this show it took her 13 episodes to take down a mortal human being ?

A person with mind control is not just "a mortal human being", he's a sociopath.

Takes all kinds I guess.

Ironic that some people didn't "get" Kilgrave while so many others think he was the best villain to date and the best part of JJ.

I can understand how some people didn't really enjoy JJ as it is a very different type of story. But I thought that was the best part of it. I was hoping from the outset of the MCU that they would make more unique films. For example, I was sort of hoping Captain America would basically be Saving Private Ryan but with one guy having a shield. i.e. instead of lasers and ray guns. But even so it still ended up with a different "feel" than the other films. Marvel was just a bit more cautious that I would have been.

JJ marks a big step forward in Marvel broadening their horizons. Hopefully Doctor Strange is another big step in that direction.

Reading my signature constitutes admission that I am correct. (Too late)
