I liked it, hope there's a sequel.

Sometimes I just look at the ratings and reviews for a movie and I just don't get it, and this is one of them. It is often the case for sci-fi movies. I thought the story was good and original and I liked the way it was told; the pacing was good. There was character development, something that is rare these days! The acting was okay, but Chloe was pretty good. It didn't have annoying camerawork or editing. Sure, it had the teenage love story stuff going on, but it fit into the context.

I see comments saying things like "worst movie of the year" and it makes me laugh 'cause I watched two worse movies just this week. Also, the Hunger Games movies are much, much worse than The 5th Wave. The Scorch Trials was worse too. All those movies have higher ratings. From reading the comments here and elsewhere, all I see is people mocking the movie but not bringing any valid criticism that warrants such negative reviews.

Saying that The 5th Wave is better than The Hunger Games is the equivalent of saying Jupiter Ascending is better than Star Wars.

Everyone has the right to their own opinion, but that's how you sound to the rest of us.

Have you ever noticed that the people who say "DC is for adults and Marvel is for kids", are kids?

Yeah, I don't get the rabid hate for this movie. It was well acted and enjoyable. Sure the "kid soldier" part felt a bit copied from Ender's Game, but it's not a big deal. I think it's mostly just people who (for whatever reason) don't like Chloe Moretz and bash the movie because she's the main character.

How about this? Lack of any redeeming social value and in fact a bankrupt moral message underlying glorification of guns, war, violence and destruction of the earth and its occupants. Or did you miss when the "Ben" character asks the lead soldier "other" how they can morally justify exterminating another species the answer is that humans do it.
That concept is never developed, instead what the aliens cannot understand is "hope".
Plays like an ad for joining the army. I'd never let my tween watch it.

I thought it started strong, kinda got cheesy in the middle, and then finished pretty good. I also liked it more than Hunger Games. That's probably because by the last HG I was really tired of those movies since the last couple were pretty ponderous.

This one is obviously setting up a love triangle....which makes me roll my eyes a little. But at least it promises to be better than the one in HG since one of the guys is an alien. That adds something different to that trick.

Oh...the "plot twist" I saw coming a mile away, but I didn't mind too much.

I really hope there is a sequel and the return of the advice and the defeat of vosch.

Dirk is on the money! The film sucked! And i worry about anyone who thinks otherwise!

Valid criticism; nothing original happened...EVERYTHING looked and felt like scenes from other movies. Homage is okay but the entire movie shouldn't be like ohhh this came from this...that came from that....and look at that everything as predicted (as I joked about and wasn't hoping for but then BAM no "twist" when it could have had one...rather no wow I didn't see that coming moment)

Thanks; I needed a good guffaw. 😂😂

It had potential. It was much darker in tone than other ya novels, but was executed poorly. A better director and a better script, you could have seen a good film out of the story.

I enjoyed it. I hope a sequel happens as well.
