I Watched Priscilla Last Night On Prime Video…

It sucked! Sofia Coppola with the help of Priscilla made Elvis to be the spawn of Satan. Jacob Elordi as Elvis G..damned himself through the movie. It was either G-d or Baby with a few f-bombs thrown in. I lived those years and profanity was not used. Never heard the f-bomb being used even though my family let loose with swearing (cussing). My husband was in the army the same time as Elvis, both in Germany, and my husband said the f-bomb was not used. Although there were plenty of the “cussing” words including G-ds. I have contempt for movies made with lies.

I would say her parents were guilty of not parenting. I believe Priscilla’s mother was star struck. Her father was too mealy-mouthed to go against both Priscilla and the mother. BTW, back in those days it wasn’t that unusual for older guys to date and marry teenage girls. As far as Elvis was concerned I believe he mostly dated gals who resembled his mother. He wanted another Gladys in his life.

Just because YOU didn't hear people using the f-word doesn't mean it wasn't used.

”My husband was in the army the same time as Elvis, both in Germany, and my husband said the f-bomb was not used.”

You sound very juvenile. All the other swearing words were used. I was raised around all my Aunts, Uncles, Cousins. My dad was one of the worst being in the military. The f-bomb was not in their vernacular. Apparently you didn’t live those times. I worked with people who swore like a “bunch of sailors” as it was referred to back then, and not once did I hear the f-bomb. I’ll tell you how filthy mouthed we’ve become. My cousin was a junior in high school when some b—-h called her a prostitute. She an idea what one was, but she confirmed it with my Aunt.

In other words “You know not of what you speak.”

reply

You sound very narrow minded and narcissistic.

reply

Truth hurts!. I’m telling it like it was and you can’t handle the truth. You do realize you appear to be a sock. You also need to peruse a dictionary to find the definition of the adjective “narcissistic”. It doesn’t fit the narrative here.

reply

Here's a definition for ya:

narcissistic: self-centeredness arising from failure to distinguish the self from external objects, either in very young babies or as a feature of mental disorder.

(the 'feature of mental disorder' is the part that applies to you)

This is another reply, though late, to back up my statement about the f-bomb. It was NOT used in our everyday language. It was NOT part of our lexicon during the 1950’s & most of the 1960’s. The Viet Nam War, Woodstock, protests, etc. opened the door for more profane language. It’s often said the 1960’s is the decade when we lost our innocence, beginning with the assassination of JFK. It was a decade of turbulence.

The following is to educate you how it became a banal filler in our everyday speech, a filler for scriptwriters, a filler to use instead of a more intelligent verb, adverb, adjective, noun…whatever. It is and continues to be the 2nd most profane word to use. The 1st is the n-word.

From another article:

”In a culture where the F-word is as common as dirt, the only way to be provocative would be to buy a dictionary and learn to express one’s self without profanity.”

Read the above sentence again & let it sink in!

Ok, Church Lady!

You really can’t handle the truth so you disparage me. You are a denialist. ”Denialism is an essentially irrational action that withholds the validation of a historical experience or event when a person refuses to accept an empirically verifiable reality.”

You don’t accept truths so your action is to negate the facts. Also, as I wrote prior “narcissism” doesn’t fit the narrative here. By me stating facts regarding a subject doesn’t make me a narcissist. If you’re in a classroom and the instructor states a fact in which you disagree, do you refer to said instructor as a narcissist?

You in fact would be deemed a narcissist: “People with narcissistic personality disorder (NPD) know the difference between fact and fiction, truth and lies. But because their personality structure is built around inflated self importance they hold reality at a distance and filter information to conform to their wishes.”

reply

I agree with you 100%. I was a pre-teen in the 60s. I never ever heard the F word growing up around a bunch of family, or when I started public high school. This movie was trash. Hollywood wants to ram that crap down our throat. Part of the cultural rot.

reply

F-bomb? What is this, 1990? That bomb was defused long ago. The word fuck is part of the common vernacular now.

reply

”In a culture where the F-word is as common as dirt, the only way to be provocative would be to buy a dictionary and learn to express one’s self without profanity.”

It has not been defused. It may be part of YOUR “vernacular”, but I wouldn’t be bragging about it. Read the sentence above carefully. Let it sink in. Those who use the f-bomb have a shallow lexicon in their arsenal of speech.

”vernacular”

”Vernacular is the ordinary, informal, spoken form of language (though possibly written), particularly when perceived as being of lower social status in contrast to standard language, which is more codified, institutional, literary, or formal.[1] More narrowly, a particular variety of a language that meets the lower-status perception, and sometimes even carries social stigma, is also called a vernacular, vernacular dialect, nonstandard dialect,[2][3] etc. and is typically its speakers' native variety.”

Hmm? “…lower social status…”

reply

Lol, seeing grown adults say “f-word” and “f-bomb” in a discussion about the word itself is just so precious. Do you wash your screens off with soap when you read it?

Fuck 🧼🧽🫧🫧🫧

reply

No, I wince and think how crude. ”… the only way to be provocative would be to buy a dictionary and learn to express one’s self without profanity.”

In other words it takes more gray matter to express one’s self without offending. Using profanity is easier than having the smarts to use words which adhere to civil discourse…yet are thought provoking.

Need I define “civil discourse”?

reply

I hear you.

It's frowned upon by top level comedians to pad out your stories with cursing, it's a cheap trick that masks a lack of creativity.

There a reason Hitchock still sits near the top of the all time list, his films were menacing and challenging without hardly any violence or one word of swearing. Also pretty sure Kubrick and Polanski didn't have any either
