was mark hamill busy or something?

as the title suggests. I've always enjoyed Mark Hamill as the joker, he really brought life to the character

Emerson did a fantastic job, people need to be more open minded

I got your restraining order right here, RESTRAIN THIS!

Agreed Emerson was great.

I like Hamill very much, but Emerson was creepier and diMaggio was also awesome

" Who moaned about Anthony Hopkins' portrayal of Hannibal Lecter, saying "Why didn't Brian Cox play Lector?"

Difference is, when someone does the role better...I mean I don't mind Brian Cox, but Hopkins is a superior actor across his roles. He was more chilling. He was more memorable, and one of the reasons Silence was the success that manhunter never was.
Not a bad film by any stretch though.

However, in the case of who played the Joker in this one...I quite like Michael Emerson (as an actor...person of interest can suck my balls) but I do not think he was suited to this role.
No, not because he wasn't Mark Hamil.
Not convinced?
I think John DiMaggio did better than Hamil, for my liking.
Certainly worked better than Emerson did.

Personally I hated Peter Weller as Batman as well, not just because of who he isn't...the voice simply did not suit the character or "ring true" to me...and as a child of the 80's trust me, I have no hate for Weller.

People need to be open to change, but they also ought to have the right to voice concerns without being accused of being stuck on something.

Nice logic, except that it isnt true.
Mark Hamill quit himself, after the Arkham video games.

He said he would come back though if they do The Killing Joke as an animated movie.

Unless he changes his mind Mark Hamill is done voicing the Joker (Arkham City was his last outing).

I didn't like Emmerson's portrayal much either. I prefer Hamill's voice too, but only because that is the portrayal of Joker that fits the most. Given that, its probably not the voice that bother's fans so much as the portrayal. For example, Ledgers Joker sounded nothing like Hamill's, but he stuck to the whole "just waiting to pop" style of the character, which made it easy to receive.

Dont know Emmerson well enough to say he phoned it in. But I think he stuck firm to his portrayal of Joker. Go watch again. His voice fits well within the last exchange in the Tunnel, and I lol'd when he exlaimed "Are you out of you mind!?!" My gripe is the way they wrote the Joker in this one. I think they picked Emmerson because his voice does well in the context of a quiet genius psychopath. He sounds so harmless, and yet that works in contrast to how maniacal he(Joker) really is.

Again, I would prefer Hamill's style simply cause it really embodies the whole twisted clown persona. Imagine "You killed Captain Clown!!", now put that emphasis into "Are you out of your mind!?!" Ledger's voice would likely have suffered just as well because I think Emmerson's delivery would have been better suited than Ledger's portrayal.

Hamill decided to retire from voicing the joker after arkham city. He said he doesn't see the character topping that, whether or not they asked him to play this role i have no idea but i thought whoever voiced him in this did a pretty good job. He kinda made joker seem crazy in a little scarier way than hamill's joker.

Mark said he was not voicing Joker any more after he did Arkham City. I loved Emerson anyway. He was perfect for this future Joker.

The Joker sounded like Paul Lynde. "I'll get you next time, Penelope Pitstop." I'm not a fan of this take.
