Is this a loosely-based remake of "The Wild One," with Marlon Brando?

I haven't seen it, but watching the trailers, it seems to be evoking The Wild One. Austin Butler plays the Brando character, and the girl who plays the waitress, who Brando falls for, even has the same name, Kathy. Tom Hardy plays Lee Marvin's character, Chino, though he's called Johnny.

At least that's the way it looks to me.

It's not a remake. The Wild One serves as an inspiration to some of the characters.

No. But Hardy, not Butler, is copping Brando.

I saw this at Alamo Drafthouse and before the movie they had an interview with Jeff Nicholas play where he talked about movies that were an influence for this film and The Wild One was one of them.

It looks to be a homage of 'Wild One' and the 'Americana' era of 60s, with Hardy doing his best Brando and the added bonus of 'Elvis' doing his best james dean .. so like a throwback to movies of 50s/60s with stunt casting of a Brando guy and an Elvis/Dean guy, like Avengers for 50s/60s audiences

it's referenced in the movie
