Watched it once on dvd, have no desire to again.
Obvious what they were driving for, to resurrect the franchise after the misstep of the female remake (that attempted to do for SNL women what GB84 did for the guys) so a legacy sequel with all the familiar stuff which viewed the original films in legendary status and the actors in that lost legacy characters way (also see Tron Legacy, Force Awakens, BR2049), and given the Amblin/Spielberg treatment with the kids/broken family (CE3K/ET/BTTF/Gremlins/Goonies etc), and in a different settings than usual NYC (Rockwell Americana farm/corn/wheatfields imagery like Field of Dreams, Superman etc) and even going so far to bring back the original villain (Rise of Skywalker style)
So can't really fault them for doing that, it just felt kind of.. bland
