Lucille just ditched her husband?
Like Chummy did.
shareChummy was supposedly working at the mothers' home, but it was a clumsy exit. She just sort of faded away. I kept hoping that she'd reappear occasionally. Lucille's exit seemed completely out of character, but then again, she suffered the trauma of losing a baby. I was disappointed that Lucille did not recognize that she needed help to heal.

I really really don’t like the clumsy way they write out all the characters that leave due to the actors moving on. Jenny’s exit was odd because the whole show is based on her diary yet we never ever hear from her again. No visit. Not even a Christmas card to Sister Julianne. Then there are the tragic ones - the nun who was raped then was institutionalized from her severe PTSD. Why such a horrible end to a sweet character? Then Rev Tom and the nurse Barbara who were so happily married until she DIES. Now they pull a Chummy with Lucille, and leave us with the lonely husband. Now I hear Matthew is leaving too. Maybe Trixie and Cyril can hook up. It would be nice if they brought back a couple of the old characters for the Christmas episodes.
You're right. I think most of us understand that sometimes actors leave very successful series, but I agree that this show has done a questionable job of saying goodbye to the characters. I see no reason that they had to kill off Barbara. They could have had Tom posted to a new parish. I guess they went for the drama, eh? And Sister Mary Cynthia, such a sweet person and they gave her such an awful departure. By that I mean the stay in the mental hospital and shock therapy.
Even though actors have left for new jobs, couldn't any of them return for an episode here or there?
I'm not totally up to date on the latest episodes, but if Matthew is leaving, I can sort of see why. The character doesn't get all that much to do.
This is sad for me to read as I just watched the episode where Lucille left for Jamaica.
But it doesn't surprise me as she was really depressed and homesick and wouldn't want to return to the UK.
