Juniper being played by Reese Witherspoon

Mud's girlfriend is first merely described in words, and marked by such words as supposedly being some kind of southern pearl. We are then made to wait almost half the movie in anticipation of seeing her. While at first taking Mud's description as hyperbole or even lie, the boys later catch a glimpse of her at the supermarket and are so in awe that they are sure it's the girl that Mud described. And then later on we the audience finally see her up close and personal, and it's .... Reese Witherspoon. lol

Ain't nothing wrong with how Reese looks. She's fine by a modest standard. But I was rather disappointed because I was expecting some kind of genuine beauty.

I was about to post the same here, until I realized that Juniper was not supposed to be achingly beautiful that Mud couldn't live without her, but rather Mud was immature psychologically and emotionally to be possessed by this woman. The movie paints Mud as being of noble intention but reckless in action. Contrast it to Galen who is shown as a shallow fool. Ellis and May Pearl's relationship mirrors that of Mud and Juniper's. Ellis was on his way to becoming just like Mud when he punch that second guy with May Pearl. Near the end of the movie in their new apartment Ellis sees a new girl and seems ready to forget May Pearl and take Galen's advice and move on. That's the significance of "Help Me Rhonda".

Help me Rhonda yeah, get her out of my heart.

As for Reese, the boys seeing her and the other boys in the parking lot ogling her
I don't know maybe it's just a way for the director to boost her ego. Personally I think she looked haggard in this movie and even in her prime I never thought she was all that.

You're offended by a post made by a guy named Whackjob?

In that small-town, hick setting -- Reese appears as a hottie. There aren't too many babes in that area, so above-average girls become queens

I'm curious what was in the 2nd note to Juniper.
