Up until about halfway through the movie, I counted the minutes of dead air with slow pans and utterly useless scenes with nothing going on, and it added up to over 20 minutes. At that point i simply turned off this scam garbage.

shareThat's too funny....I posted a similar thread over a year ago, JUST got done with the film tonight. I'd tried a number of times to make it through, and you're exactly spot on with your assessment of dead air time.
I actually enjoy atmospheric, moody movies...but this one? It is one of the drably lit, slowest moving films I've ever seen. squirm-inducing scene stretching going on here.
An example: when he found that animal carving in the furnace ashes and realized it'd been more than just a dream? It took him, what? Almost a full minute of screen time to reach in, grab it and unfold it out of its canvas covering? Which doesn't make any sense considering that there was no tension left after we saw him grab it out. We knew his dream really happened, but are made to wait an extra 20 seconds while he slowly unwraps and holds it up.
Wanted so much to like this, but...yeah.
its ok - not everyone is able to appreciate stunning visuals and a intriguing scifi world

I understand your jab there but it WAS a pretty slow movie
It was likable enough but maybe expectations were very high
I'm with you on this one. I guess some people just can't appreciate good cinematography. I wonder how these people felt about Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, a movie that always engages you and yet constantly feels almost completely devoid of substance?

shareWell without going in to it too deeply, because it would take too long (and also because it's been a while now since I saw the film), I found the most interesting aspects the exploration of the 'silicon soul', what constitutes life, playing God, the morality of creating life and the treatment of that which we create, the impact of artificial intelligence on society (pertaining particularly to relationships), do digital emotions matter etc etc. There's other stuff of course, but this well in particular I found the deepest, there is so much there to explore, to think about and question.
