This is going to be one of the greatest films ever made

I don't say that lightly, I have always kept hype in check. But I have never been as confident in a production as I am in this. And the reason for that was the selection of Villeneuve to helm. Yes the cast is amazing (Gosling in Drive proves his demeanor is perfect for this world, Jared Leto is solid in everything and I'm hoping he's a Replicant, and obviously Harrison). But Villeneuve is going to bring such life to this, he is an absolute genius. One look at the gas station parking lot scene in Prisoners and you just know that his aesthetic in this sequel is going to be incredible with an actual budget behind him. And the fact that he has already stated he's making it his own rather than just copying Ridley makes it that much more exciting and genuine. Not to mention Harrison said it was the best script he's ever read.

The hype train is real for this one. This will be one of the greatest films of all time, and I say that in absolute confidence. Mark my words!

No one mentions Deakins. Also, i heard Kubrick is returning to Earth just to watch this masterpiece!

You're right, Blade Runner is one of the greatest films ever made. Oh, you meant the sequel... maybe it'll end up in the top ten sci-fi of the decade at best.

We'll see. Very few sequels surpass the original, especially an iconic film like Blade Runner. I always go into these thinking, I hope they dont screw it up.

I'm with you man, this got me so hyped I can't contain myself.

How can a "Blade Runner" directed by Denis Villeneuve, shot by Roger Deakins, scored by Johan Johansson be bad? There's no way it sucks, it's going to be amazing.

Most anticipated movie right now for me.

How could you possibly say that. It hasn't been made yet! It's too late for a sequel.

I know the original is one of the best films ever made (the Director's cut, anyway). We'll have to wait and see about this one, but am looking forward to the release !

Let's hope we all live to see it now that Thumper Trumper is in power.

You should always be a bit skeptical of hype. IMHO, great movies are not created by blueprint, but by a multitude of disparate parts coming together at the right time in the right place. I mean, Blade Runner was a great film IN SPITE of Harrison Ford's lukewarm performance, because so many other parts came together -- the visionary view of a dystopian Los Angeles was stunning and brand new to most audience members unfamiliar with cyberpunk. The Film Noir sensibilities combined with science fiction tropes that were already standard in literary cyberpunk, but brand new to the film-going audience came at precisely the right time. The legendary ad-libbing by Rutger Hauer turned a thoughtful science fiction story into something that will be quoted for decades to come. We had a screenplay that was in many ways superior and more timely than Phillip K. Dick's novel that was its basis. No one could have predicted its cult status -- because make no mistake, the film was not a critical success when it was first released into theaters.

I hope it's a good film. I doubt it will be a great film -- and even if it is, you can't recognize a film as being great until it's withstood the test of time, let alone predicting it before its release. Certainly, when Blade Runner itself was released, most people did not recognize its greatness.

Posts like this can never be taken at all seriously.

While you never can tell until you actually see the movie, there are reasons to be very optimistic. While most revisits to classics of the 80s, be they sequels or reboots, are bad ideas, sci-fi movies translate better than most, especially the dystopian kind, as the themes translate well. Mad Max: Fury Road is a great beacon of hope. And, adding a director the caliber of Denis Villeneuve, who's dark aesthetic and noirish sensibilites are perfect for Blade Runner, was a good way to ensure that the quality of filmmaking stays on par. All of the actor additions will fit well. I look forward to seeing how Ryan Gosling fits into the world, and Dave Batista is perfect casting for a replicant. This movie may not end up being as good as the sum of its parts, but there is plenty of cause for optimism.
