VANGELIS on new Blade Runner score

Vangelis himself wasn't asked to score Blade Runner 2, and he's OK with that. "You can never repeat certain things," Vangelis says. "It's only once in a lifetime. It's like doing another Chariots Of Fire. It's impossible."

btw: his latest work got nominated at next years grammy

The score for the teaser sounds like a trent reznor remix of the original. I wonder if they just remix/re-record the OST for the entire film.

The irony is that he actually DID do another Chariots of Fire - "Chariots of Fire – The Play: Music from the Stage Show". I'm sure he could have pulled off another "Blade Runner"!

The great soundtrack was 50% of the original films attraction, dumb not to at least ask him.

reply

They probably listened to what Vangelis has done in the last 15 years so it was smart not to ask him.

There, there it is. Folks should read this a few times and stop hammering on about him doing 2049; his music NOW wouldn't fit AT ALL.

reply

What's to say he couldn't go back to his roots? Many musicians do that on various albums after having strayed from their original sound throughout the years.
