Who here is NOT Iranian, and likes this movie? (im interested)

I'm American, of Pakistani heritage. I loved this movie.

The main reason is the acting. It felt so real. Within the first few minutes I was engrossed in the couple's back and forth in the divorce proceedings and sucked into the story. They felt like a married couple, my heart was breaking for the grandfather. I would say the dialogue too, and this is interesting because I was reading subtitles. But all in all it was marvelously well-crafted.

I enjoyed this movie because it had my undivided attention the entire time. The story's universal themes of unemployment; relationships/marriages falling apart and children being put in the middle; the stress and responsibility that comes with financial problems; loved ones having Alzheimer and how to deal with that; the trauma of miscarriage etc made it very easy empathize with the characters' plight,turmoil and inner pain. Furthermore,the acting and directing was topnotch, it was so realistic and sincere that, for a moment, I thought I was watching real people.

I've also always been fascinated with other cultures, countries and religions. Foreign language films allow me to enter into another world without having to leave my living room. Since I've never been to Iran, it was quite interesting to see an unbiased glimse of Iranian society.

I'm Jewish and Israeli, and I loved the film, as I love much of Iranian film from the past two decades. It's a shame that there are political problems between the two countries, as the peoples have much in common.

But on topic, I can easily give three reasons why this is a very good film:

* Real characters. We could understand all of them, empathise with them, feel their pain.

* Willingness to make it difficult for the viewer in that no one "wins", and there's no clear-cut solution. Any "ending" is arbitrary. As circles close, new ones open, and there's not real place to close anything.

* A fascinating look at middle class, and working class, Iranian society. While the government might not have liked some of it, the presentation was without forcing any ideas upon the viewer, but rather trying to show the truth, for better and for worse.

Not only I'm not Iranian, but this is the 1st movie from that country I've seen... and I loved it!

1) Great production values (directing; writing; acting; etc).
2) It makes you debate over and over until never reaching a real answer.
3) It's universal. It could've taken place in any country, and work the same.
