I'm British, and I really liked the film.
1. It contained a strong feeling of realism, both in the situations and actions of the characters, the portrayal of the Iranian society, and in the seamless acting. Because of this it was easy to relate to the characters.
2. Excellent use of tension throughout the film, there were many scenes where I was tensely waiting for the outcome of a situation that would impact one of the characters. The sense of timing in the direction is excellent, drawing out the pauses and reveals just long enough to raise tension without being frustrating.
3. The complexity of the characters. Each had a unique personality with different goals. All of the characters had good and bad qualities that grew from their personalities and goals, and made understandable decsions based on them.
liked it because in this movie everything happened seemed to be real (such event can happen in real life too). And secondly because of brilliant acting, off course. :p
shareI am Lithuanian (thats eastern europe).
1. This movie felt very realistic (regardless whether it was or wasnt, never been to Iran, i wouldnt know), almost a documentary feel like, which goes well with me.
2. This movie relayed on characters, their developement, feelings and actinos rather big explosions and car chases.
3. The acting and directing was very well done. You could travel along the journy of the characters, feel thier emotions and relate to them, which is very rare compared to other movies come out lately.

from Texas, USA
really enjoyed the movie
1. The acting was superb
2. The characters weren't black and white (good/bad) but shades of gray
3. I haven't seen many Persian movies. It was interesting getting a glimpse of that culture.
I'm from Poland (live in the U.S.) - loved this movie....
I found so many of the themes interesting and some hit very close to home - having one person who wants to emigrate while the other does not, caring for an elderly family member, empowering a young girl to stand up for herself and educate herself vs. the life that Hodjat's daughter will likely lead - the old school, religious vs the modern, academic is a pretty universal theme in many cultures right now... the power of beliefs, the moral implications of lying (even for those who are less religious) and having your daughter lie FOR you but not wanting to ask her to do it - I could go on and on...
the movie had me on the edge of my seat like very few thrillers could accomplish.
The acting was top notch - from the old man to the little daughter - so excellent.
on top of that, you get to learn something of daily city life in middle-class Iran, which is a hard thing to get info on these days.... don't know how accurate it is, but since it's written/directed/and acted by Iranians, I would assume it's an accurate portrayal.... of their experience anyway.
A chat with you and somehow, death loses its sting.....
I live in the South West of England, and I am sure this will go on to become a stone cold classic, because;
It had a perfect script; dialogue, character motivations, and incident all seemed perfectly drawn and never ridiculous, creating characters you care about from the outset, leading to unbearable tension when they're being threatened. It also captured a lot of difficult themes whilst never being heavy handed, and in fact incredibly accessible.
It looked beautiful; the handheld camerawork created lots of visual metaphors, lingering close ups, and captured the "little" moments, that shaped the film as a whole outside of the main plot.
The acting was perfect for this film, the actors getting under the skin of the characters and making it seem real.
This will be remembered in leagues with 12 Angry Men. I guarantee it.

I'm American and I LOVE this movie. It's realistic, the characters are flawed but not one dimensional, the story is told in a way that makes it hard to stop watching, you don't know what's going to happen next, the emotions felt real, amazing acting, etc etc etc.
shareFinally got to see it tonight. American. And I loved it.
