Finally an Asian hero.
This is actually quite a big step in Hollywood. In all these decades not many Asian actors have been heroes besides the martial arts stereotype. I applaud the movie makers for this nice step.

Do you see a lot of white heroes in Asian movies? The hero is usually from the country the movie is made and it is the logical thing to do.
***All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain.***
Um, there are a lot of Asian people who live in America. Americans do not equal white people though a lot of people seem to think so.
I was happy to see an Asian character. Hollywood generally "whitewashes" Asian characters (like in Starship Troopers, Edge of Tomorrow, The Last Airbender, Aloha). Yet if a character that is often white gets turned black there are a million "Heimdall is supposed to be white" threads.
As far as the "hero" being from the country they are from, Hollywood loves Australian and British leads playing Americans but people only freak out about " race ".
I was happy about that too, but disappointed he wasn't a bad ass who knew Kung Fu. Just felt messed up that he didn't do even one tricky little flip kick or round house through the whole movie, even though I waited patiently. Maybe there's some in the directors cut if they release that.
shareI, too, was impressed to see a strong, masculine Asian male lead in this film. He even has an Asian-sounding name. Definitely a step up for Hollywood. I was cringing throughout the maze scenes thinking he was going to get offed at any minute, but he made it all the way to the end.
The character development was a bit lacking, sure, but that's a complaint toward the entire ensemble, not just Minho. Now all we need is a strong Asian male character who isn't written to be asexual.
Im just amazed the guy who played him is 29 years old lol
shareThat's so racist.
shareYou don't watch many Asian films then I take it.
