Finally an Asian hero.

This is actually quite a big step in Hollywood. In all these decades not many Asian actors have been heroes besides the martial arts stereotype. I applaud the movie makers for this nice step.

Luckily asian guy wasn't doing typical doing typical things asian stereotypes, like being fast and solving mathematical/ingeneering/sciency problems, oh wait! And black guy wasn't doing what positive black guy clichés do in every other movie, like being smart or being leader(like in almost every cop movie), oh wait!
Maybe girl isn't just a pretty face, nope, she could be replaced by a rose and it wouldn't effect the plot.

If something, it's forced half baked divercy filled with racial clichés and stereotypes. And a real hero, the main characcter was still white! It's a step back.

I liked the character, I was sure he was gonna die in that maze after he ran away from Thomas and Alby.

Hollywood in America was started by white people, yet every race wants recognition. God forbid a cast is all white then race cards from every minority is thrown in the pile. If whites are so horrible, why does every one want to be around us. Stop expecting the white man to coddle you start your own industries and exclude us.

Hollywood was started by white people because back then only white people had power. Should it stay white only, you racist moron?

No one wants to be around crackers like you

you start your own industries and exclude us.

That's the dumbest thing I read

If I don't reply, you're probably on my ignore list for something I forgot already

when you say Asian, do you mean Asian or East-Asian? Because there's been Asian heroes before. The Guru is a movie with an Indian guy as a lead character (although the actor was born in England).

Asia is HUGE. You've got the middle east, the Indian peninsula and of course east asia (where you can add China if you'd like).

Always bothers me when Americans say Asian and only refer to half of Asia China + East Asia)

reply

too bad the other Asian guy in the movie got killed off D: idk his name LOL

The character felt like a really crappy version of Glen from The Walking Dead.

reply

Good for the Asian character.. However a big flaw in your observation.. Sorry to disappoint but the hero is Thomas not the Asian kid. Sorry.

reply

@roguejc.I just finished watching this movie. I also thought Thomas was the hero and Thomas isn't asian.

reply

Minho is not the main character but it's still a hero.

The thing is that the maze runner present asians, hispanic and african american as leaders and they play key roles that present them in a positive light. I grew up watching movies in which the hispanic was always the mafioso/crew/cleaning guy, the asian was always a martial artist with horrible use of the language and the african american was part of gangs. And all of them would be the first to die and would rarely be the leaders.

In this case thomas (who is played by an actor who has latin ancestry) has to earn his leadership against other leaders, most of them diverse in their ethnicities.

Jorge and Brenda played by mixed actors are also leaders in the second movie. That's refreshing.
