Any Earth species that kill and don't feed?

Aside from humans, is there any species of creature on this planet that hunts for fun, or hunts just for the sake of killing something near them? As far as I can recall from every nature show I have ever watched, pretty much every single creature that kills another does it for food.

That being said, since the moon creatures obviously have another source of food (they would HAVE to, as humans are not a viable food source on the moon, and the creatures are never shown eating any of the astronauts)why attack the astronauts? I mean, the moon is big enough where they could have kept a wide berth and not come into contact with the astronauts at all, and waited the 3 days (I think it was 3?) until they left. Just seems odd that if the creatures didn't need to use the astronauts for food, that they would just start terrorizing them and killing them.

The common house cat hunts and kills for fun, although some of them will eat their kills if they're not getting food anywhere else.

A lot of animals kill and do not eat their victims. Close to home, cats will kill mice, snakes, birds, etc. and not always eat them. Venomous snakes often kill people who wander too close to their nests. Rhinos, hippos, elephants - none of them eat humans, but have been known to kill them. They do not kill only for food, they kill if they feel threatened. Obviously this is why the monsters on the moon kill. I am guessing anyway, as I have not seen the movie yet. But to say that only humans kill and do not eat their victims is a little off base.

Actually the common housecat kills for fun all the time, but people never seem to consider it. I've found rabbits killed by cats with only their heads bitten off. Unfortunately I have also seen cats snag birds and proceed to play with them while they're still alive (more fun I guess); then once they get tired of it they'll either leave it to die, or kill it.

Now this is the big differentiating factor… Do animals kill because they enjoy watching something suffer, or because they are just having fun “playing” with something? It is probably the latter. Now when humans kill they CAN do it for survival. But murderers can be broken into those that do it “for the thrill of the hunt” ; and those that do it because they are sadists and enjoy causing pain. There are plenty of animals that kill for fun, but few that would be able to kill sadistically. Because sadism requires that the killer be able to empathize with its prey; that is, be able to understand what its victim is going through, and only a few animals have the higher brain function required for empathy.

While it has already been mentioned by someone else, most people here don't seem to realize that chimps are well known for having "wars". Yes, they basically even commit genocide on other chimp tribes (not even the children are spared) for territory. See link below:

Dolphins do.

Cats do. I have two kitties (they're adorable) but it is an unfortunate trait that cats can and will kill anything that is smaller than them and moves.

I'll give you an example: the alien in Alien that this movie is obviously stealing from.

My cats do it all the time, they often catch mice and kill them but don't eat them afterwards, they often just play with it ie throwing it everywhere and pouncing on it. Admittedly I feed them very well so it's possible they're not hungry or they've brought them back as a "gift" for me but it still pretty much fits into the description of hunting and killing for fun.

When I was a kid there was a big indigo snake that the cats used to play with regularly. Neither the cats nor the snake ever seemed the worse for wear--I checked it out a couple of times and didn't find any bite marks or anything. On the other hand the cats didn't mess with the corn snakes--the corn snakes would make a fight of it.
