I agree that Last Days on Mars IMO was better than Europa Report.
The main actor in it (Liev Schreiber) and that bitchy scientist (Olivia Williams) were solid roles (and Elias Koteas was solid as well in his smaller role). Olivia Williams was probably the most interesting character as the scientist that prioritizes the discovery over the death of her colleague.
In Europa Report, I really wanted to like it more now that i think about it (especially with that news that Europa may have geysers, I watched E.R. that same day lol.)... But it was really poorly executed. The actors in it really felt like B-rate actors and Sharlto Copley wasnt interesting or even solid in this movie either. Like I'm not sure how anyone can say the acting in E.R. was better than LDoMars just because that new zealander, Shilpto Dilpto (hehe), is a more famous scifi actor.
The cinematography and effects and stations/vehicles were also all-around excellent in LDoMars.
We aren't talking Prometheus level effects obviously, but very solid.
The only interesting thing/effect in E.R. was the creature at the last frame of the movie lol. The documentary style filming was also really annoying and didn't add to the movie at all.
The only downside of LDoMars was there wasn't anything interesting to add to scifi genre... Yes new bacteria exposed to humans on planet causes foreseen effects.
Does the bacteria become anything interesting like conscious once its infected a human body... Guess not...
What is its purpose?
At least it was very watchable.
But in terms of space-horror type genre, Sunshine and even Pandorum seem like superior films than LDoMars.
