Pacific Rim vs Godzilla (2014)

Just curious to see which one you guys/girls prefer more. For me its Pacific Rim.

Now I have heard the "Its dumb", "Its basically giant power rangers fighting monsters", "Stupid dumb fun" etc. in terms of Pacific Rim. And yeah, the screenplay wasn't exactly the best, but:

The Monsters were designed beautifully
Idris Elba's performance was awesome
It was fun
etc.

On to Godzilla, I was excited to see this movie; as I recall, I first saw back in May 2014. With the movie starring the likes of Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver AKA Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Elizabeth Olsen, and more notably Ken Watanabe and Bryan Cranston I couldn't wait to see the movie.

In the end I was mostly disappointed. Not enough screentime for Godzilla, thinly developed supporting characters, and a pacing issues. Now that's not to say I hated Godzilla, because despite all that I just mentioned, I rather enjoyed it. Pacific Rim 2 is now in limbo unfortunately and Godzilla 2 is still set for 2018. But which do you prefer:

Pacific Rim.

Better story, better action, more action, colourful, better suited cast. I thought it was just all around superior.

I did like Godzilla though. It was just kind of flat. I'm sick of Godzilla's origin story. Everyone knows what Godzilla looks like. They don't need the Godzilla reveal. I would like to see a new Godzilla movie that takes place in a world where Godzilla is already a known presence. For everything Pacific Rim had going so right for it, one unsung thing it had over Godzilla was building its character and its world already in the thick of living in fear of the Kaiju. I just hope they don't do another Godzilla move in 10 years and it's the origin story again with new cast and characters.

Well, I rated the Pacific Rim '8' and the other a '5' stars! (Even though there are 2-3 fav actors of mine in Godzilla).

Gotta say that it seems to me the rating method would be better if we allowed to rate 1 to 20, then they could make to show it like now, up to 10 stars.

Anyway that's my opinion...

Godzilla, by a clear margin. It's 4/5, if not 5/5

Pacific Rim had potential but the good (basic idea, FX, some spectacular action) is almost outweighed by the bad (overwhelming amounts of cheesy dialogue and acting).

I give it 3/5 having just seen it for the first time tonight, years after the hype and yet still disappointed with it.

PACIFIC RIM all the way. It has better actions, better characters, better effects, better cinematography, better at everything. The only redeemable things about Godzilla 2014 is Godzilla and Bryan Cranston, too bad he got wasted massively in this movie, Should be the focus for the human characters.
