I'm worried for Stargate!

With all the hate that IDR is getting, both from Fans of the first one and the Critics, I'm worried for Stargate.

Also, while IDR was visually well made, I just didn't care that much for any of the Characters. Sure there was Jeff Goldblum and that's one Character I cared about based on the first movie. But the Liam Hemsworth Character? Come on, the Dude was absolutely superfluous, they could have totally merged him with the Will Smith stand-in. Or were they worried from any backlash, from Red Neck America, if the Former President's Daughter was in a relationship with a Black Dude?
Then there was the Joey King Character, that somewhat reminded me of her Character in White House Down.

The thing about the first one was, that you did actually care for the Characters that were presented. In this one, you somewhat care for the Old Characters, but not the New.

Also they could have been more daring with their lines.
Whenever they were saying: "Hold on to your seats", I couldn't stop thinking of SLJ in JP "Hold on to your Butts."
They made references to other Sci-Fi movies ("It's a Trap") so why not go there as well?

This has me worried for a New Stargate Movie.
Will it be hated by Fans & Critics, crushing the Reboot almost instantly?
Will it be less Epic than the OG Version?
Will it just be visually enticing but without soul?
They already said that it will ignore the TV Continuity (I really liked SG-1), so who knows where they'll take it regarding Ra's Origin Story.

I'm (sadly) still holding out faith for Stargate

But I have to admit I'm a huge fan of SG1 / Atlantis / Universe so I'm not looking forward to. a film that undo's all that. I'd rather a continuation of them

I hadn't heard that a 'Stargate' sequel was in the works-utterly horrified by the thought-if someone wants to make a film, give some completion to 'SG Universe' series for gods' sake!

Not so much a sequel, but, a reboot. I don't think Kurt Russell or James Spader would return.

But I would much rather continuation of the SG1 / Atlantis / Universe "verse"

A Stargate remake or reboot? Has the world gone mad (or madder) than usual? Stargate is a wonderful classic movie. It DOES NOT need to be remade or rebooted.

You should be worried. It's likely going to be crap for two reasons:

1) It's a reboot and an awful lot of reboots are poor, as they are commonly the brainchildren of people who are running out of ideas and desperately want to make money.

2) It's being directed by Roland Emmerich and he is proving to be a woeful director at this point in time, or indeed most of his directorial career. His best movie may well have been the original Stargate, and even then it was nothing spectacular. The guy has churned out mostly CGI porn and ridiculous cliched action since then, with any reboot surely falling victim to the same horrors.

Maybe let someone else who'll give it a more sophisticated approach with fresh ideas a go at making it, then it might not be the complete failure one would automatically have it down for. I'd be surprised if anyone has faith in Emmerich after Independence Day: Returdence.
