Clearly top of the "Worst Ever SciFi Movie" list for the decades to come

After clumsily recycling every cliché from the first movie, Resurgence manages to depict the humans as an brainless, clueless mass of imbecilic and arrogant creatures making you wish the aliens would succeed in wiping out this moronic, embarrassing semi-intelligent caricature of the human race. Resurgence is such an insult to logic, science and basic knowledge that I truly believe the whole movie crew, director, actors, producers, etc should apologize to the SciFi community and really consider stay away from making SciFi movies ever again. There isn't one single minute during this horrific mockery of a movie when sheer ignorance and stupidity isn't present at mesmerizing and unprecedented magnitude. Viewing the movie I saw the reason why Will Smith elegantly rejected the role and thus avoid a clear path towards a nomination for a Golden Raspberry Award.

The whole Independence Day franchise epitomizes the Hollywood summer popcorn movie. A big, loud, over-the-top spectacle. Fun to watch even though it's chock full of contrived plot devices and technical inaccuracies. Hell, you could write a book on all the science these films get wrong. As two hours of mindless fun with plenty of crash, smash, boom, Resurgence scores pretty well. It also helps that it doesn't take itself too seriously. Someone back there thought District 9 belonged in the same category with Jupiter Ascending and Battlefield Earth (the true gold standard of crap sci-fi). Don't know what they were thinking.

Another Will Smith project, After Earth - intended as a vehicle for his son Jaden who, I'm sorry, just does not share his father's acting talent - was really quite bad. And how about the Transformers franchise? Horrible films they keep right on making regardless. There are lots of movies I would put on a worst of list. This wouldn't be one of them. Is it profound and thought provoking? No. But as a straight-up action blockbuster, it's reasonably entertaining.

Certainly not a masterpiece, but neither was the first film, which I remember even when seeing it in cinemas was derided as "big, dumb, loud, patriotic popcorn fluff". But I would say ID4:2 is far from the WORST sci fi movie I've seen. It was coherent, structured, and easy to understand. The effects were adequate, the characters somewhat likeable, and the threat reasonably epic. It built from the first movie (even if I didn't like how it did so).

Anyone who thinks this "typical Hollywood excessive by-the-numbers blockbuster" is the WORST sci fi movie ever has clearly been lucky enough not to see more bad sci fi movies!

So many haters and too much importance placed on the quality of a movie. You paid for this film because you wanted to be entertained. The fact that you were not is not the fault of the directors, producers, actors, etc. and blah blah blah on and on. They did their best and their best did not suit you. If you don't like something don't spend your precious time talking trash about it. Sit down and write a best seller that will become the next great movie. Talking trash is not hurting the feelings of those who liked the movie, it makes YOU look infantile.
