27-year-old male who grew up watching the original classic and the lesser-known sort-of sequel/soft-reboot Return to Oz from the 80's (which I love as much as the original in my own way for how twisted and off-kilter it is), and I thought this was a perfectly fun, serviceable film. Not great. Not bad at all. But pretty good and definitely a film I'd be open to seeing continued with a sequel.

For me, it's a solid 7. The best parts of the film were Sam Raimi's direction and the wonderfully quirky visuals and secondary characters. (I mean, come on! Whose heart didn't melt when China Doll was introduced?) But the problems mainly lay in a fairly cliche plot and weaker main characters. Still, I can forgive this for the sheer fun-factor and imaginative visual direction. It's great eye-candy and a lot of fun to behold.

And FURTHERMORE, this is my signature! SERIOUSLY! Did you think I was still talking about my point?

I love it. I think it's a great prequel to The Wizard of Oz.

I liked this well enough. The story is actually really good and well thought out. The only downside is of course Theodora's story. I just think it was too rushed and not developed enough. But this is a movie that definitely loves its source material and taps into the mythology Baum created. It's full of little references to the books, and they really seem to be trying to update Oz for this new generation.

It took me watching Pan - a half-assed effort at a fantasy prequel with no originality and no care for its source material - to really appreciate this.

I thought the movie was okay. I agree with your comments that Theodora's transition from a little innocent to pure evil was a little rushed

I think the moral to the story is that BS can be more powerful than magic.

It was better than I expected. Loved the 3 witches and Finley.🐭

If I had to list the 5 greatest movies ever made, the wizard of oz is on that list of 5. This movie is a very fitting pre-quel to it. I thought is did a wonderful job of telling the back story and being a great movie in its own right.

I watched it for the first time just now... really liked it (22 year old male)!

Favourite movie of all time: "Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan"

Nope, I really liked it as well. I thought it had this sense of wonder that is missing from a lot of blockbusters - truly great Sam Raimi flick.

NO YOU'RE NOT This movie was a cinematic masterpiece it just didn't sit well with as large of an audience because too much of this generation is NUMB from movies with real emotion and actual characters. A work of genius. One of Raimi's best since Spiderman. The more popular mainstream critics loved it

reply

no i liked it too, Franco was really good i thought he really carried the movie

Michelle Willians and Mila Kunis were adequate

the movie was also surprisingly funny at times

overall 7/10

I enjoyed it as well, despite going in thinking I wouldn't. Not as good as Maleficent IMO, but still entertaining.

And I'm a 32 year old guy by the way.
