I actually liked this movie on the whole, BUT
The part that cracked me up most was the first scene with Gosling and his brother just standing there staring at each other in silence, being shown from different camera angles...standing there...in silence...staring. Refn taking those long silences to new visual heights!
By the way, speaking of Kristin Scott Thomas -- I thought her performance was atrocious.
shareI'll disagree. While I think the film is a mess, the cinematography, score and KST were the best things going for it because she WENT for it and showed no hesitation or mercy in being as tawdry and crazy as she wanted.

I had no idea it was Kristin Scott Thomas. I actually was thinking the actress was just some out of work barmaid they found to fill in for a real actor whose flight was delayed or something.
Upon review, the fight scene is also quite comical.
Another is the guy singing karaoke while his buddies watch. When it happened at the end, I laughed hysterically.
I was entertained enough, but I can fully understand how people hate this movie.
