I actually liked this movie on the whole, BUT
The part that cracked me up most was the first scene with Gosling and his brother just standing there staring at each other in silence, being shown from different camera angles...standing there...in silence...staring. Refn taking those long silences to new visual heights!
I actually think he went too far on this film, too many shots to cut to, on a lot sequences
One of the reasons Drive was so unique, was that the directing/editing approach was very minimalist
It did not strike me as funny the first time I watched this film. I was very engrossed with the film. I may laugh the next time.
But I will tell you what I did laugh at. When Chang "interrogates" Byron. Stabbing Byron in the hands & hearing Byron's screams. Then the legs. More of Byron screaming. Not sure what it was, but something I found phoney regarding Byron's performance during all of this. While I found that funny, it did not negatively effect my enjoyment of this film!

Joeys line in Friends, "smell the fart acting" kept popping into my mind and making chuckle.

I laughed a lot, and I don't think it was all unintentional. Surely Refn knew he'd get some chuckles by having God/the police captain sing karaoke for five minutes.
