In this movie, considering rom-com conventions and the fantasy associated with those conventions a younger actor is required for Reese's part. Reese is OK for the older woman opposite Robert PATTINSON in WATER FOR ELEPHANTS, for instance. This movie not so much.
SARAH JONES now appearing on FOX TV's ALCATRAZ would have been a better choice or someone of her generation.
Unless they made mention several times that her character was supposed to be in her early twenties or something, it shouldn't matter. Because a) the character could be Reese Witherspoon's age or b) as an actress she can play any age she is believable in.
Having seen the film, I can say that at no point did I think the role was for someone younger.
Agreed, Reese looked at least 10 years younger then 35 to me.

Anyway, after seeing the pre-views, I just know it will be a movie that will annoy the hell out of me, mainly because that hag Chelsea Handler is in it. Now there's someone almost the same age as Reese, who looks 10 years older!
I loved the movie, but you hit the nail on the head with Handler. She looked like a 7 year older sister rather than someone who is Reese' age. Reese still has a very youthful air about her.

Perhaps a bigger problem than her being 35 is that she is 35 and still doing her ditzy acting about as mature as a 14-year-old schtick. That is unnattractive. And she is too old for that.

It's very hard to believe that you think she was too old for this part. After having seen the film I think she was great for it. I did question the picks for her love interests but by the end of the movie I can see why they picked who they picked. She was great for the role and i loved the movie!!!!!!

As the tone of the movie was rather juvenile, they'd better have a young actress in the lead. I know that some people don't want to hear this, but when it comes to this kind of movies you please men more with senseless eyecandy than anything else.
