Arnold made a mistake. Should have done what the rest did.

Arnold tried to make his 1st comeback with an unknown project. No idea what "The Last Stand" is, the character, or the story.

When Bruce Willis made his comeback, he did a new DIE HARD. Brought back his signature franchise. Built in audience.

When Stallone came back, he came back with a one-two punch (pun not intended) of Rocky AND Rambo. Two of the most famous film franchises of history.

Arnold should have just came back with a new TWINS 2, or Kindergarten Cop 2. Even a new PREDATOR, or a sequel to Running Man.

@carpediem2020 When Bruce Willis made his comeback...
I don't think Bruce was away long enough for him to have made a comeback.

I agree with your suggestion about how Arnold should've made his comeback. A new Conan should've been his first new movie.

I was going to write the same thing... Bruce Willis has never left, at least not long enough for it to be called a 'comeback'.

I don't know, maybe a "Jingle all the way 2" would have been a wiser choice.

Arnold has plenty of sequels coming up, so his fans should not worry. In a way this failure is good for him. Now he knows that his former glory doesn't automatically mean success in the present. He'll (hopefully) be more motivated now to improve on this performance.

Is that a promise or a threat? LOL!

Can't anybody see that he's too old for action flicks? FFS he's 65 and he looked it in this movie. I was looking forward to his comeback too but after this I can see that he's too old for it now. I'll bet nobody in Hollyweird has the guts to tell him that.

Good point, but the guys you mention never went away. Stallone has been making movies pretty regularly, the Rambo and Rocky sequels were just the first 2 to do well at the box office in awhile. And as others have pointed out, Willis hasn't gone away at all, he's been in big budget film after big budget film without lag.

Last Stand might have done poorly, but as you point out, the second Arnold brings back one of his franchises, he'll be back on top. They are currently working on a Twins sequel called Triplets, with Eddie Murphy as the long lost third brother. And I'd go crazy if they made a Running Man sequel, especially if Arnold pumped up again for it. If Stallone could do it, Arnold can. He's got a lot of options.

A remake of On Golden Pond is probably better suited to Arnie now a days.

I don't see how making sequels is the best way to make a comeback. if its got Arnie's name attached to it, I'll see it. sequel or no sequel! it may get more people interested but having Arnie back in non sequels then making some like Terminator 5, Conan 3 and Twins 2 is a better way I think. it kinda builds anticipation up a bit.

I will be seeing Sabotage as well as Escape Plan, for who's in it as well as the story.

did Terminator 3 make people go nuts and say that was awesome, I want more?! NO

I think the Last Stand was a good choice for Arnold.

Things are different today than 1993. I think Sly's come back movie was Cliffhanger which was much different than Rocky V or the comedies where he seemed to have bogged down in a relative way.

Arnold has good instincts and he was working with people who were helping him out a lot in The Last Stand.

Maybe more friendlys would have died at the road block like the Seabee's in The Green Beret movie but that would have set a different tone for the film.

Actually, Stallone's "come-back was NOT Rambo or Rocky. Stallone got back on the radar with a little movie called 'COP LAND'
It was Cop Land that gave Stallone a fresh start at his career. In fact, I'm willing to bet Dollars-to-Pesos that Arnold KNEW this and decided to try and repeat Stallone's success from Cop Land.
Arnold's character is ALMOST a carbon copy of Stallone's in Cop Land. They even point out the shoes Arnold is wearing in the beginning like the camera does for Stallone's flip-flops in Cop Land.
Different motives and personalities, yes, but almost the same character. I'm betting SOMEONE wanted to replicate Stallone's success from that movie for Arnold in The Last Stand
