I'm curious - How realistic is this?

I caught this one last night. I thought it was pretty good. However, the thought kept occurring to me - would anyone actually do that? First of all, it's around 2000 feet high. It's not the most stable looking structure. A rung breaks on the way up. The other thing is, they have very little in provisions. Personally, I never caught on with the rock climbing. It never interested me. But I'm sure there are seasoned climbers out there that have seen "Fall". Would any have you have taken a shot at the tower? And if you did, would you have stopped climbing once you found out how rickety it was? Would you have taken more provisions for the climb??

I have yet to see it but from what I saw in trailers, pretty damned realistic and yes... people really do do that.

Yes but there is a fundamental difference. In your video, those two guys were up there because they were getting paid for it. In "Fall", the two girls were up there mainly for the thrill of it. You know, after having rolled it around in my head - I don't think anyone would have done what they did. Particularly when it is clearly established how rickety the tower is. However, I would be curious to know if people have climbed stable towers of that size (lets say 2000 feet), simply for the thrill of it.

One thing for sure - no way you'd catch me up there, hahahahaha

Yes people really do climb towers for the thrill of it. It doesn't matter that YOU "Rolled it around in your head" and decided "I don't think anyone would have done what they did."

Just because YOU wouldn't doesn't mean no one would.
There is a whole class of people that are Adrenaline junkies always looking for a thrill.

CLimbing huge buildings and towers, mountains. skydiving, base jumping, etc....

Sure. The problem I had is the rickety tower. The girls are climbing up it - over and over and over again it's established the tower is falling apart. Who in their right mind would continue climbing it? It's hard for me to believe anyone would continue climbing that particular tower. Especially when you would know, you'd have to climb down the exact same tower. It seems to me, if you were in your right mind, even if you took on that task - at some point you would say "Ok, forget this - this tower is falling apart, I'll find a different one to climb".

People do stupid shit and use poor judgment all the time. that doesn't make it unrealistic (in your opinion)

I saw it 3x. The reason they went up was to snap her friend out of her depression and get over her trauma.

The tower was sturdy for the most part. I commented earlier about how they didn't bring enough water and food for the climb.

I recommend the movie. It's a lot if fun to watch. The view and SFX are great.

Youtube is full of videos of people climbing tall structures for the hell of it so yes, there would be some out there who would climb something like that tower.

Wow - crazy. Hey thanks for the video man. I guess there are people that climb thousands of feet up towers that aren't necessarily 100% stable. I mean there is no guarantee the tower is stable. Especially when you get higher and higher and the tower gets thinner and thinner. Or, what a sudden burst of heavy wind could do to you. God bless them, but it's insane if you ask me. Thanks again for the video.

As far as people doing it, it is realistic. People do all sorts of crazy shit. They wouldn't need a lot of provisions, since they planned to go straight down. The girls are the most unrealistic part in the entire movie. Neither of them looks like a climber, one being too big, the other being too small, neither one muscular enough.

Good point, if you are planning to go straight up and straight down, as they were - I guess you really wouldn't need a lot of provisions. I never climbed so I'll take your word on the girls. For me, the bigger one wasn't a problem cuz I figured she would be strong enough. I was bothered by the smaller girl, she seemed too mentally and physically weak to handle such a challenge. But what do I know? I'm not a climber. Hey thanks for the response.

Even the bigger girl was physically wrong. I mean, she's not "big", she is quite good looking, just too much fat and too little muscle to be a climber. The other girl lacked both, but that was referenced towards the end of the movie.

People who climb those things, go to mountains, jump from buildings are really that crazy and lack self safeness.

I have zero sympathy and dont feel sorry when those idiots crush and die because of their recklessness . Its their choice.

So yes, those two idiots would really climb there even after seeing how old and rusty that ladder is. Then were like: "OMG. Now what. Welp!"

If I was nuttier than squirrel turds and did something like this, I would have prepped waaaay better than Becks and Hunter. Base jumping chute? Yep. Satellite phone? Yep. Hydration pack? Yep. Drone? Sure! Not to mention including a juice pack backup power, a few of those "survival" food bars (BTW, the coconut ones are simply delicious).

And yes, to answer your point, since it was very rickety and obviously falling apart - I couldn't imagine not going "over-prepped". If I was an adrenaline junkie, I would like to continue being said adrenaline junkie over and over so... yeah, there's a balance.

That people will do crazy shit like this is absolutely realistic. That they would be capable of these kinds of superhuman feats of strength (I see another thread about this that I'm just about to check out), no way.

My dad was a radio station engineer in the 1950s (also a disc jockey). On a few occasions, he had to climb a transmission tower to replace the light bulb at the top in the red glass housing to warn off airplanes. Those towers, however, were only a couple of hundred feet high, not two thousand. I don't think I could do it.
